How to Use

Dosage

Start with 8 mg once a day. Your doctor will slowly increase the dose until you reach the right amount for you.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water or another liquid, preferably with food, once a day in the morning. Do not chew or crush them. Drink plenty of fluids.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 24 mg once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Loss of appetite, weight loss
  • Seeing, feeling, or hearing things that are not real (hallucinations)
  • Depression
  • Dizziness or fainting
  • Muscle tremors or spasms
  • Headache
  • Severe tiredness, weakness, or general feeling of illness
  • Severe sleepiness with low energy
  • High blood pressure
  • Stomach pain or discomfort in the stomach
  • Diarrhea
  • Indigestion
  • Falls
  • Wounds
  • Heart problems, including changes in heart rhythm (like slow or extra beats) or feeling your heart beat fast or unevenly (palpitations). These may show up as abnormal heart readings on an ECG.
RARE
  • Seizures
  • Allergic reaction
  • Dehydration (not enough water in the body)
  • Tingling or numbness of the skin
  • Changes in taste
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Difficulty controlling body or limb movements (extrapyramidal disorder)
  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing in the ears that doesn't go away (tinnitus)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Flushing
  • Retching (feeling like you're going to vomit but don't)
  • Heavy sweating
  • Muscle weakness
  • Increased liver enzyme levels in the blood
  • Severe skin rashes with blisters and peeling skin (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), red rash with small pus-filled blisters (acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis), or rashes that may form blisters resembling small targets.
RARE
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Reminyl if you are allergic to galantamine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take Reminyl if you have severe liver or kidney disease.
  • Reminyl can cause serious skin reactions, heart problems, and seizures. Stop taking the medicine and get medical help right away if these occur.
  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel dizzy or sleepy, especially when you first start treatment.
  • Do not breastfeed while using Reminyl.
