Reminyl is a medicine containing galantamine, used to treat mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease by increasing a chemical in the brain called acetylcholine, which helps brain cells communicate.
You will start with a small dose, usually 8 mg once daily. Your doctor may slowly increase your dose over several weeks until it is right for you.
Swallow the capsule whole with water or other liquid in the morning, preferably with food. Do not chew or crush it. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
Do not take more than one capsule per day. The maximum daily dose is 24 mg.
Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Increases the risk of cardiac conduction disorders, such as bradycardia. May exacerbate existing COPD. Consider adverse effects affecting the gastrointestinal tract. Consider potential interactions. Avoid concomitant use of anticholinergic medicines. (updated 18.3.2024)
