How to Use

Dosage

Start with a small dose, usually 8 mg once daily. Your doctor may slowly increase your dose over several weeks.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water or another liquid, preferably with food, in the morning. Do not chew or crush them. Drink plenty of fluids during treatment.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 24 mg, taken once a day.

  • Seeing, feeling, or hearing things that are not real (hallucinations)
  • Depression
  • Dizziness or fainting
  • Muscle tremors or spasms

  • Severe drowsiness and lack of energy
  • High blood pressure
  • Stomach pain or discomfort
  • Diarrhea
  • Indigestion
  • Falls
  • Wounds
RARE
  • Dehydration
  • Allergic reaction
  • Tingling or numbness of the skin
  • Changes in taste
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Difficulty controlling body or limb movements (extrapyramidal disorder)
  • Blurred vision
  • Persistent ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Flushing
  • Retching (gagging)
  • Excessive sweating
  • Muscle weakness
  • Increased liver enzymes in the blood
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Reminyl if you are allergic to galantamine or any other ingredient in the medicine.
  • Do not take Reminyl if you have severe liver or kidney disease.
  • Reminyl can cause serious skin reactions, heart problems, or seizures. If you notice any of these, stop taking the medicine and see a doctor right away.
  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers.
  • Tell your doctor if you are going to have surgery, as Reminyl can affect some anesthesia medicines.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Increases the risk of cardiac conduction disorders, such as bradycardia. May exacerbate existing COPD.
