How to Use

Dosage

The dosage is individualized and monitored by a doctor.

Method

The medicine is always given intravenously, either as a single injection or as a slow infusion into a vein.

  • Muscle stiffness
  • Feeling sick (nausea) or throwing up (vomiting)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Slow heart rate
  • Shallow breathing

  • High blood pressure (after surgery)
RARE
  • Constipation
  • Lack of oxygen
  • Very slow heart rate that can lead to your heart stopping
  • Seizures (fits)
  • Heart stopping
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • A specific type of irregular heart rhythm (atrioventricular block)
  • Needing remifentanil or higher doses over time (dependence or tolerance)
  • Withdrawal symptoms like fast heart rate, high blood pressure, restlessness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anxiety, chills, shaking, and sweating
  • Pain (after surgery)
  • Feeling calm or very sleepy (after surgery)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to remifentanil, any other ingredients, or similar pain medicines like fentanyl.
  • This medicine must not be injected into your spinal canal.
  • This medicine must not be used as the only medicine to start anesthesia.
  • Tell your doctor if you have lung or liver problems, as you may have breathing difficulties more easily.
  • Tell your doctor if you are over 65, weak, or have low blood pressure, as you may be more sensitive to heart problems.

  • Tell your doctor if you or a family member have ever misused alcohol, prescription drugs, or illegal drugs.
  • This medicine can cause dependence and misuse if used repeatedly.
  • Stopping this medicine suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms.
  • Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially those for blood pressure, heart problems, depression, anxiety, or pain, as they can interact with Remifentanil.
  • Avoid alcohol after treatment until you are fully recovered.
  • Do not breastfeed for 24 hours after receiving this medicine and discard any pumped milk.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery until your doctor says it's safe, as this medicine can affect your alertness.
