How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is one 40 mg tablet.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Take it as soon as a migraine starts, but only during the headache phase.

Important

Do not take more than 80 mg (two 40 mg tablets) in 24 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Pressure, pain, or tightness in the chest; fast or pounding heartbeat.
  • Dizziness, vertigo, headache, drowsiness, reduced sensitivity to touch or pain.
  • Sore throat, tightness in the throat, dry mouth.
  • Stomach pain, indigestion, nausea (feeling unwell in the stomach and vomiting).
  • Stiffness (increased muscle tension), muscle weakness, back pain, muscle pain.
  • General weakness, feeling warm, chills, runny nose, sweating, tingling or unusual sensations, flushing, pain.
RARE
  • Difficulty breathing, yawning.
  • Swelling of the face, hands, or feet; tongue inflammation, rash, itching.
  • Increased sensitivity to touch or pain (hyperesthesia); coordination problems, slow or reduced movements, tremors, speech problems.
  • Feeling unreal or detached (depersonalization); depression, unusual thoughts, agitation, confusion, mood swings; periods of unresponsiveness; general discomfort, feeling unwell, insomnia.
  • Loss of appetite and weight loss (anorexia); taste changes, thirst.
  • Joint pain, osteoarthritis, bone pain.
  • Increased need to urinate, difficulty urinating, increased urine volume, diarrhea.
  • Vision problems, eye pain, light sensitivity, dry or watery eyes.
  • Ear pain, ringing in the ears (tinnitus).
  • Poor circulation (disorder of blood vessels in limbs).
  • Shock, asthma, hives (urticaria), skin changes, swollen tongue.
  • Throat or chest infection, swollen lymph nodes.
  • Slow heart rhythm.
  • Mood changes (emotional effects).
  • Joint inflammation, muscle problems, muscle twitching.
  • Constipation, inflammation of the esophagus, belching.
  • Breast pain, heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding.
  • Eye infection (conjunctivitis).
  • Voice changes.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to eletriptan or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver or kidney disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or a history of heart problems (like heart attack or severe chest pain) or stroke.
  • Do not take Relert if you have taken other migraine medicines called ergotamines or 'triptans' (like sumatriptan) within the last 24 hours.
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy or dizzy. Do not drive or operate machines after taking it, especially during a migraine attack.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to get pregnant, talk to your doctor. Avoid breastfeeding for 24 hours after taking this medicine.

  • Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines for depression (SSRIs or SNRIs), as combining them with Relert can lead to a serious condition called 'serotonin syndrome'.
