How to Use

Dosage

For adults and children aged 5 and older, the usual dose is 2 inhalations, twice a day, for 5 days.

Method

You breathe this powdered medicine into your lungs through your mouth using a special device called a Diskhaler.

Important

Do not take more than 4 inhalations in one day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Skin rash
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction, like widespread itchy rash (hives), swelling of face, mouth, or throat, trouble breathing, or fainting.
  • Serious skin reactions, like a rash with blisters that look like small targets, or widespread rash with blisters and peeling skin (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis).
  • Tight feeling in your throat or chest, shortness of breath, or sudden difficulty breathing (especially if you have an existing lung condition).
  • Feeling dizzy or fainting.
  • Changes in behavior like confusion, seeing or hearing things that aren't real (hallucinations), or seizures that might make you lose consciousness.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Relenza if you are allergic to zanamivir (the active ingredient) or milk protein.
  • Do not give Relenza to children under 5 years old.
  • If you feel a tightening in your throat or chest, or have trouble breathing, stop using Relenza and get medical help right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you have asthma, COPD, or any other lung condition before starting Relenza.
  • If you use other inhalers for asthma or breathing problems, take them a few minutes before Relenza. Always have your quick-relief inhaler nearby.

  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to get pregnant, talk to your doctor before using Relenza. Do not breastfeed while using this medicine.
  • Take all doses for the full treatment time (usually 5 days), even if you feel better. Stopping early can make flu symptoms return.
