How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual daily dose is 0.5 mg to 2.5 mg of lorazepam, taken in 2 or 3 smaller doses or as a single dose in the evening.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a small amount of liquid, such as half a glass of water.

Important

Do not take more than 7.5 mg of Rativor in one day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sleepy, tired, or drowsy.
  • Feeling unsteady or having trouble walking.
  • Feeling confused or depressed.
  • Feeling dizzy.
  • Muscle weakness.
RARE
  • Changes in sex drive or problems with sexual function.
  • Feeling sick to your stomach (nausea).
  • Skin rash or allergic skin reactions.
  • Feeling less alert or aware.
  • Changes in how much saliva you produce.
  • Changes in blood cells (like low white blood cells or platelets).
  • Slower reaction time.
  • Problems with body movements or control, or shaking (tremor).
  • Vision problems like blurred vision or seeing double.
  • Slurred speech.
  • Headache.
  • Seizures or fits.
  • Memory problems, like forgetting things (amnesia).
  • Feeling overly happy (euphoria) or losing your inhibitions.
  • Coma (a very deep state of unconsciousness).
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or suicide attempts.
  • Trouble paying attention or focusing.
  • Problems with balance or feeling like you are spinning (vertigo).
  • Feeling more anxious, agitated, irritated, aggressive, having strange thoughts (delusions), or hallucinations.
  • Sleep problems or insomnia (paradoxical reaction).
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Severe breathing problems (like slowed breathing, shortness of breath, or worsening sleep apnea or lung disease).
  • Constipation.
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice) or changes in liver tests.
  • Hair loss.
  • Too much of a hormone that affects water in your body (SIADH).
  • Low salt (sodium) in your blood (hyponatremia).
  • Lower body temperature (hypothermia).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Rativor if you are allergic to lorazepam, other similar medicines (benzodiazepines), or any other ingredients in Rativor.
  • Do not take Rativor if you have severe lung problems (like COPD) or if you stop breathing during sleep (sleep apnea).
  • Do not take Rativor if you have severe liver disease or a condition called myasthenia gravis, which causes muscle weakness.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had problems with drug or alcohol abuse, as this medicine can be addictive. It should be used for the shortest time possible.
  • If you feel very sad, depressed, or have thoughts about harming yourself, tell your doctor right away.

  • This medicine can make you sleepy or less alert. Do not drive a car or operate machines until you know how Rativor affects you.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Rativor, as it can make the medicine's effects much stronger and unpredictable.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before taking Rativor. Do not breastfeed while taking Rativor unless your doctor specifically says it's safe for your baby.
