How to Use

Dosage

Typically 0.5-2.5 mg per day, divided into 2-3 doses or taken as a single dose in the evening.

Method

Take the tablets orally with a little liquid, like half a glass of water. 1 mg and 2.5 mg tablets can be split if they are hard to swallow whole.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 7.5 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sleepy, tired, or drowsy
  • Unsteady movements and difficulty walking
  • Confusion, feeling down, or dizziness
  • Muscle weakness
RARE
  • Changes in sex drive, impotence, or weaker orgasm
  • Nausea
  • Skin rash
  • Decreased alertness
  • Changes in how much saliva you produce
  • Low white blood cell count (leukopenia)
  • Changes in blood cell counts (e.g., low platelets)
  • Slower reaction time
  • Poor coordination (extrapyramidal symptoms)
  • Tremors
  • Vision problems (double vision, blurred vision)
  • Slurred speech
  • Headache
  • Seizures or epileptic fits
  • Memory loss
  • Feeling overly uninhibited or euphoric
  • Coma
  • Suicidal thoughts or attempts
  • Difficulty paying attention or concentrating
  • Balance problems or vertigo
  • Unusual reactions like anxiety, agitation, delusions, irritability, aggressive behavior, sleep problems, sexual arousal, hallucinations, or psychosis
  • Becoming physically or mentally dependent on the medicine
  • Low blood pressure
  • Serious breathing problems (like slowed breathing, shortness of breath, worse sleep apnea, or worse COPD)
  • Constipation
  • High bilirubin, yellow skin/eyes (jaundice), or high liver enzymes
  • Allergic skin reactions
  • Hair loss
  • Hypersensitivity reactions
  • Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH)
  • Low sodium in the blood (hyponatremia)
  • Low body temperature (hypothermia)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Rativor if you are allergic to lorazepam, other benzodiazepines, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe breathing problems (like COPD or sleep apnea), myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness), or severe liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of drug or alcohol abuse, as this medicine can be addictive.
  • If you have depression or suicidal thoughts, tell your doctor immediately, as Rativor can make these worse.
  • Do not drive or operate heavy machinery, especially during the first days of treatment, as this medicine can make you sleepy and affect your reaction time. Alcohol will worsen these effects.

  • Do not use Rativor if you are pregnant or think you might be, unless your doctor says it's absolutely necessary, as it can harm the baby.
  • Do not breastfeed while taking Rativor, as the medicine passes into breast milk and can make the baby sleepy or unable to feed well.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly. Always talk to your doctor first to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
