Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Confusion, nervousness, or depression
  • Dizziness, sleep disturbances, nightmares, or hallucinations
  • Excessive drop in blood pressure or excessively slow heart rate (with associated dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting)
  • Palpitations
  • Worsening of heart failure (increased swelling and shortness of breath)
  • Nausea, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhea
  • Allergic skin reactions, redness, itching, or hair loss
  • Tiredness, dizziness, headache, increased sweating, or feeling cold in the limbs
  • Worsening peripheral circulation
  • Shortness of breath
  • Muscle weakness
RARE
  • Reduced number of platelets (may cause nosebleeds, increased bruising) or strong skin redness (purpura)
  • Myasthenia gravis-like symptoms without muscle weakness
  • Reduced tear fluid secretion, dry eyes, or conjunctivitis (eye irritation and redness)
  • Dry mouth
  • Agranulocytosis (symptoms like unexplained fever, sore throat, and other flu-like symptoms)
  • Too low blood sugar levels in children
  • Sensation disturbances, fainting, or dizziness
  • Too low blood pressure when standing up
  • Contraction of the smooth muscle walls of the bronchi in asthmatic patients
  • Onset of latent diabetes or worsening of diabetes control in patients with previously diagnosed diabetes
  • Keratitis and conjunctivitis (eye pain and redness) or visual disturbances
  • Worsening of chest pain in patients with coronary artery disease
  • Worsening of peripheral circulation in the limbs and worsening of intermittent claudication or Raynaud's syndrome (with episodes of white fingers and toes)
  • Onset or worsening of psoriasis
  • Arthritis
  • Kidney failure
  • Impotence or decreased libido
  • Worsening of myasthenia gravis

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to propranolol or any other ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have asthma or severe long-term lung disease.
  • Do not use if you have untreated or symptomatic heart failure (swelling, shortness of breath).
  • Do not use if your pulse is very slow (below 50 beats per minute before treatment).
  • Do not use if your blood pressure is very low (below 90 mmHg before treatment).

  • Do not use if you have certain heart rhythm problems (second or third-degree AV block or sick sinus syndrome) and no functioning pacemaker.
  • Do not use if you have a severe circulation disorder in your limbs (e.g., intermittent claudication or Raynaud's syndrome, which causes cold, white, and numb fingers and toes).
  • Do not use if you have Prinzmetal's angina (chest pain due to spasms in the coronary arteries).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Non-selective beta blocker. Significant adverse effects include bradycardia, orthostatism, sleep disorders and bronchial contraction. (updated 20.1.2025)
