Ramipril Ratiopharm

Ramipril ratiopharm is a medicine that helps lower high blood pressure, protects your heart and kidneys, and reduces the risk of heart attack or stroke by relaxing blood vessels and making it easier for your heart to pump blood.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 1.25 mg or 2.5 mg once daily. Your doctor will adjust the dose as needed.

Method

Take the tablets by mouth at the same time each day. Swallow them whole with liquid. Do not crush or chew the tablets. You can divide the tablet into equal halves.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 10 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache or feeling tired
  • Dizziness (especially when starting or increasing dose)
  • Fainting or unusually low blood pressure, especially when standing up quickly
  • Dry, irritating cough, sinus infection, bronchitis, shortness of breath
  • Stomach or gut pain, diarrhea, indigestion, feeling or being sick
  • Skin rash with or without swelling
  • Chest pain
  • Muscle cramps or muscle pain
  • Higher than normal potassium levels in blood (seen in blood tests)
RARE
  • Balance problems, unusual skin sensations (numbness, tingling, burning, prickling)
  • Loss or change in taste, sleep problems, changes in sense of smell, hair loss
  • Feeling down, anxious, nervous or restless, confusion, trouble concentrating, slow reactions
  • Stuffy nose, difficulty breathing or worsening asthma, sore throat
  • Swelling in the gut (intestinal angioedema) with stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Heartburn, constipation or dry mouth
  • More urination than usual, reduced kidney function, acute kidney failure, dark urine, muscle cramps, confusion, seizures (signs of ADH issues)
  • Increased sweating, loss or decrease in appetite
  • Increased or irregular heartbeats, swollen arms or legs (signs of fluid buildup)
  • Flushed face, blurred vision, joint pain, fever, serious skin peeling or flaking, itchy lumpy rash, nail problems, skin rashes or bruises, spots on skin, cold limbs, red/itchy/swollen/watery eyes, increased sensitivity to sunlight, mouth sores, discolored fingers/toes when cold (Raynaud's)
  • Inability to have sex (men), reduced sexual desire (men and women), breast enlargement in men
  • Increased white blood cells (eosinophilia), changes in liver, pancreas, or kidney function in blood tests, lower red/white blood cells, platelets or hemoglobin in blood tests, increased antibody levels, too few blood cells, lower sodium in blood tests
  • Shakiness or confusion, red and swollen tongue, hearing problems or ringing in ears, feeling weak

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to ramipril, any ACE inhibitor, or other ingredients. Signs of a serious allergic reaction include swelling of the face, lips, throat, or tongue, making it hard to swallow or breathe.
  • Do not take during the last 6 months of pregnancy. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney problems, like narrowed kidney arteries, or if you are on dialysis.
  • Do not take if your blood pressure is very low or changes a lot. Your doctor will decide if it's safe for you.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a blood pressure medicine containing aliskiren.

  • Do not take if you are taking sacubitril/valsartan for heart failure, as it increases the risk of angioedema.
  • Tell your doctor if you are having surgery or dental work requiring anesthesia, as you might need to stop this medicine temporarily.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness, especially when you start taking it or increase the dose. If you feel dizzy, do not drive or use machines.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children or teenagers under 18 years old.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
