How to Use

Dosage

Typically, you'll start with 1.25 mg or 2.5 mg once a day, and your doctor will adjust the dose as needed.

Method

Take this medicine by mouth at the same time each day. Swallow the tablets whole with liquid; do not crush or chew them.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 10 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, feeling tired
  • Dizziness
  • Fainting, low blood pressure (especially when standing up quickly)
  • Dry cough, shortness of breath
  • Stomach or bowel pain, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting
  • Skin rash with swelling
  • Chest pain
  • Muscle cramps or muscle pain
  • Higher than normal potassium in blood tests
  • Balance problems (spinning sensation)
  • Itching and unusual skin feelings (numbness, tingling, burning)
  • Changed or lost sense of taste
  • Sleep problems
  • Feeling down, worried, or restless
  • Stuffy nose, worsening asthma
  • Stomach swelling (intestinal angioedema) with symptoms like stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Heartburn, constipation, or dry mouth
  • Increased urination
  • Increased sweating
  • Less appetite
  • Fast or uneven heartbeats
  • Swollen arms or legs (due to fluid buildup)
  • Flushing
  • Blurred vision
  • Joint pain
  • Fever
  • Sexual problems (for men and women)
  • Higher amounts of certain white blood cells (eosinophilia)
  • Changes in blood tests for liver, pancreas, and kidney function
RARE
  • Feeling unsteady or confused
  • Red and swollen tongue
  • Severe skin peeling or flaking, itchy bumpy rash
  • Nail problems (e.g., loose nails)
  • Skin rash or bruising
  • Spots on skin and cold limbs
  • Red, itchy, swollen, or watery eyes
  • Hearing problems or ringing in ears
  • Feeling weak
  • Changes in blood tests (fewer red or white blood cells, or platelets, or lower hemoglobin)
  • Increased sensitivity to sunlight

Important Warnings

  • If you get swelling of your face, lips, throat, or tongue (which makes it hard to swallow or breathe), or severe skin reactions (like a rash, blisters, or peeling skin), stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to ramipril or similar medicines, or if you have had a severe allergic reaction (angioedema) in the past.
  • This medicine can make you dizzy, especially at the start or with higher doses. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
