How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 1.25 mg or 2.5 mg once a day.

Method

Take this medicine by mouth at the same time each day. Swallow the tablets whole with liquid; do not crush or chew them.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 10 mg once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache or feeling tired
  • Dizziness, especially when starting the medicine or increasing the dose
  • Dry, irritating cough
  • Stomach or gut pain, diarrhea, indigestion, feeling sick, or throwing up
  • Skin rash, possibly with swelling
  • Muscle cramps or muscle pain
RARE
  • Itching or unusual skin feelings like numbness, tingling, burning, or "pins and needles"
  • Changes in taste or loss of taste
  • Sleep problems
  • Blocked nose, difficulty breathing, or worsening of asthma
  • Swelling in the stomach area (intestinal angioedema), causing stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Heartburn, constipation, or dry mouth
  • Swollen arms or legs (due to fluid buildup)
  • Blurred vision
  • Fever
  • Erectile dysfunction in men, decreased sex drive in men or women
  • Feeling unsteady or confused
  • Red and swollen tongue
  • Nail problems (e.g., loose or detached nails)
  • Hearing problems or ringing in the ears
  • Increased sensitivity to sunlight
  • Swelling of the mouth
  • Color changes in fingers and toes when cold, with tingling and pain when warmed (Raynaud's phenomenon)
  • Hair loss

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to ramipril, other ACE inhibitors, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get swelling of your face, lips, or throat, which can cause difficulty swallowing or breathing.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant.
  • This medicine can make you feel dizzy, especially when you start taking it or increase your dose. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems or are on dialysis.

  • Seek urgent medical help if you experience severe skin reactions such as rashes, mouth sores, or peeling skin.
  • Inform your doctor immediately if you notice a faster heart rate, chest pain, or difficulty breathing.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
