How to Use

Dosage

Take one tablet per day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush or chew it.

Important

Do not exceed the recommended daily dose of 10 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Infection
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Headache, dizziness
  • Cough, sore throat, runny nose
  • Diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, stomach pain, constipation, gas, benign stomach polyps
  • Pain without known cause, back pain
  • Weakness, flu-like symptoms
RARE
  • Loss of appetite (anorexia)
  • Depression
  • Allergic reactions (hypersensitivity)
  • Vision problems
  • Liver problems like liver inflammation or yellow skin/eyes (jaundice), or brain damage due to liver disease
  • Itching, sweating, skin blisters (usually go away after stopping treatment)
  • Kidney problems, like inflammation of the kidney connective tissue
  • Weight gain
  • Changes in white blood cells (seen in blood tests) which may increase infection risk
  • Low platelet count, leading to easier bleeding or bruising

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to rabeprazole or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Talk to a doctor if you are 55 or older and your symptoms are new or have recently changed.
  • See a doctor if you have unexplained weight loss, anemia, stomach bleeding, black stools, difficulty swallowing, painful swallowing, frequent vomiting, or vomit containing blood.
  • If you get a skin rash, especially in areas exposed to the sun, tell your doctor right away.

  • Watch for signs of kidney inflammation like less urine, blood in urine, fever, rash, or joint pain, and tell your doctor.
  • This medicine is not for children or adolescents under 18 years old.
  • Do not use other proton pump inhibitors or H2-antagonists at the same time.
  • Avoid using this medicine if you are going to have a urea breath test.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For short-term use only. Consider the numerous potential interactions, especially with clopidogrel and (es)citalopram. Avoid long-term use. Long-term use carries an increased risk of adverse effects. Risk of hypomagnesemia in prolonged use. (updated 10.11.2025)
