How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your starting dose. The usual daily dose is between 150 mg and 800 mg, depending on your condition.

Method

Take the tablets once a day at bedtime or twice a day, whole with water, with or without food. Do not drink grapefruit juice.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 800 mg. Do not stop taking the medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness (can lead to falls)
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Sleepiness (can lead to falls)
  • Withdrawal symptoms when stopping the medicine, such as difficulty sleeping, nausea, headache, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, and irritability (gradual stopping is recommended)
  • Weight gain
  • Abnormal muscle movements (shaking, stiffness, restlessness, difficulty starting movements)
  • Changes in fat or cholesterol levels in blood
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Feeling your heart beat strongly or irregularly (palpitations)
  • Constipation
  • Upset stomach (indigestion)
  • Weakness
  • Swelling of arms or legs
  • Low blood pressure when standing up (can cause dizziness or fainting)
  • High blood sugar
  • Blurred vision
  • Abnormal dreams or nightmares
  • Increased appetite
  • Irritability
  • Speech problems
  • Thoughts of suicide or worsening depression
  • Shortness of breath
  • Vomiting
  • Fever
  • Changes in thyroid hormone levels in blood
  • Decrease in certain white blood cells
  • Increase in liver enzymes in blood
  • Increase in prolactin hormone in blood (can cause breast swelling, unexpected milk production, missed or irregular periods)
RARE
  • Seizures or fits
  • Allergic reactions (hives, swelling of skin or around mouth)
  • Unpleasant feeling in legs (restless legs syndrome)
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Uncontrolled movements, especially of the face or tongue
  • Sexual problems
  • Diabetes worsening
  • Changes in heart's electrical activity (QT prolongation)
  • Slower heartbeat (especially at start of treatment), possibly with low blood pressure and fainting
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Fainting (can lead to falls)
  • Stuffy nose
  • Decrease in red blood cells or sodium in blood
  • Confusion
  • Serious condition with fever, sweating, severe muscle stiffness, and being very drowsy or weak (neuroleptic malignant syndrome)
  • Yellow skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Long-lasting and painful erection
  • Blood clots in veins (especially in legs, causing swelling, pain, redness) that can travel to lungs (chest pain, breathing difficulties)
  • Sleepwalking, sleeptalking, sleep eating, or other activities while asleep
  • Low body temperature (hypothermia)
  • Inflammation of the pancreas
  • Metabolic syndrome (increased belly fat, low 'good' cholesterol, high triglycerides, high blood pressure, high blood sugar)
  • Severe decrease in white blood cells (agranulocytosis) with fever, flu-like symptoms, sore throat, or other infection
  • Bowel blockage
  • Increased muscle enzyme (creatine phosphokinase) in blood
  • Severe skin reactions such as widespread rash with blisters, peeling skin, or flu-like symptoms with rash and swollen lymph nodes
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock) causing breathing problems or shock
  • Sudden swelling of skin, typically around eyes, lips, or throat (angioedema)
  • Abnormal hormone secretion that regulates urine volume
  • Muscle fiber breakdown and pain (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Heart muscle disease (cardiomyopathy)
  • Inflammation of the heart muscle (myocarditis)
  • Inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis) often with a red or purple spotted rash
  • Withdrawal symptoms in newborns if mother used Quetiapin Orion during pregnancy
  • Stroke

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Quetiapin Orion if you are allergic to quetiapine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine with certain HIV medicines, medicines for fungal infections (azoles), antibiotics like erythromycin or claritromycin, or the antidepressant nefazodone.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have heart problems, low blood pressure, liver problems, diabetes, epilepsy, dementia, Parkinson's disease, blood clots, or a history of low white blood cells.
  • This medicine is not for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.

  • This medicine can make you sleepy, so do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience a serious condition with fever, severe muscle stiffness, sweating, confusion, uncontrolled movements, severe dizziness, seizures, long-lasting painful erections, or fast and irregular heartbeat.
  • Contact your doctor as soon as possible if you have flu-like symptoms, sore throat, fever, persistent stomach pain with constipation, or thoughts of harming yourself.
  • Stop taking Quetiapin Orion and contact your doctor immediately if you develop severe skin reactions such as widespread rash with blisters, peeling skin, or flu-like symptoms with rash and swollen lymph nodes.
