How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual inhaled dose is about 40 MBq; children receive smaller doses.

Method

You will breathe in Technegas using a mouthpiece. You might get oxygen first. Your doctor or nurse will guide you on how to breathe it in, and you may need to lie down so the medicine spreads evenly in your lungs.

Important

An overdose is highly unlikely because doses are carefully prepared and checked by medical staff.

Important Warnings

  • This medicine is given by specially trained staff in a hospital setting.
  • The amount of radiation you receive is very small, and your doctor will only use this medicine if the benefits are greater than the risks.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter ones.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, think you might be pregnant, or planning to have a baby, tell your doctor. If you are breastfeeding, you might be asked to stop for 12 hours after the scan and dispose of any milk during that time.
