How to Use

Dosage

The first dose is 150 mg and the second is 100 mg in the upper arm, about one week apart. After that, you will receive a 25–150 mg injection once a month in the upper arm or buttock.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give this medicine as an injection deep into a muscle, either in the upper arm or buttock. It must not be given into a vein or under the skin.

Important

The maximum single dose per month is 150 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Trouble sleeping or interrupted sleep
  • Flu-like symptoms, urinary tract infection, feeling flu-ish
  • High prolactin (a hormone), breast swelling, erection problems, milk discharge from breasts, menstrual problems
  • High blood sugar, weight gain or loss, decreased appetite
  • Irritability, depression, anxiety
  • Parkinsonism symptoms (slow movements, stiff muscles, tremor, increased saliva, blank facial expression)
  • Restlessness, sleepiness or feeling less alert
  • Dystonia (involuntary muscle contractions, movements of face, mouth, tongue, or jaw)
  • Dizziness
  • Dyskinesia (involuntary, repetitive muscle movements)
  • Tremor
  • Headache
  • Fast heartbeat
  • High blood pressure
  • Cough, stuffy nose
  • Stomach pain, vomiting, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, toothache
  • Muscle, back, or joint pain
  • Missed periods
  • Fever, weakness, fatigue
  • Injection site reaction (itching, pain, swelling)
RARE
  • Glaucoma (high pressure in the eye)
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis)
  • Muscle breakdown and pain (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Very low body temperature
  • Severe skin reactions with blisters and peeling skin (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Psylipax if you are allergic to paliperidone or risperidone.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience blood clots (swelling, pain, or redness in legs, chest pain, or difficulty breathing).
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you have sudden changes in thinking, weakness, numbness, or slurred speech, as these could be signs of a stroke.
  • Get urgent medical care if you have a fever, stiff muscles, sweating, and feel confused or less aware (signs of neuroleptic malignant syndrome).
  • Men, seek immediate medical care if you have a prolonged or painful erection.

  • Tell your doctor if you experience uncontrolled movements of your tongue, mouth, or face.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you have a severe allergic reaction (fever, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue, trouble breathing, itching, rash, or low blood pressure).
  • Inform your eye doctor if you are scheduled for eye surgery and are taking this medicine.
  • Your doctor may check your white blood cell count, as dangerously low levels can occur.
