How to Use

Dosage

One tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not break or chew it. Take the tablet at the same time each day, with or without food.

Important

Maximum one tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness
  • Abnormal ejaculation (sperm goes back into the bladder, or you release less sperm/no sperm during ejaculation). This is not harmful.
RARE
  • Headache
  • Heart palpitations (feeling your heart beat fast or strong)
  • Low blood pressure when standing up, causing dizziness or fainting
  • Stuffy or itchy nose
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Vomiting
  • Skin rash
  • Itching
  • Hives (itchy red welts on the skin)
  • Feeling weak or tired
  • Fainting
  • Painful, long-lasting erection (priapism)
  • Severe blistering illness affecting skin, mouth, eyes, and genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • Blurred vision
  • Impaired vision
  • Nosebleed
  • Dry mouth
  • Severe skin rash with red, raised areas and peeling skin (erythema multiforme, exfoliative dermatitis)
  • Heart rhythm disorders
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Difficulty breathing
  • During eye surgery for cataracts or glaucoma, your pupil might not open wide enough and the colored part of your eye (iris) can become loose during the operation (called Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome, or IFIS).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to tamsulosin or any other ingredients in this medicine. A severe allergic reaction can cause swelling of the face, throat, or tongue, difficulty breathing, itching, or rash.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have felt dizzy or fainted due to low blood pressure, especially when getting up from lying or sitting down.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver problems.
  • This medicine can lower your blood pressure and cause dizziness, especially when standing up. If you feel dizzy, sit or lie down until you feel better.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe kidney problems.

  • If you are having eye surgery for cataracts or glaucoma, tell your doctor that you are taking Promictan. This is important because Promictan can affect your eye during surgery.
  • Do not give this medicine to children or teenagers under 18 years old, as it does not work for them.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Significant adverse effects include orthostatic hypotension and dizziness. Increases risk of falls. Consider potential interactions especially with antihypertensives. (updated 25.11.2024)
