How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is a 25 mg injection once a day.

Method

Prolutex is given as an injection under the skin.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 25 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Pain, redness, itching, irritation, or swelling where the injection was given.
  • Cramps in the womb.
  • Bleeding from the vagina.
  • Headache.
  • Bloated stomach.
  • Stomach pain.
  • Constipation.
  • Throwing up and feeling sick.
  • Tender and/or painful breasts.
  • Discharge from the vagina.
  • Tingling, irritation, or itching in or around the vagina.
  • Hardening around the injection site.
  • Bruises around the injection site.
  • Feeling very tired, exhausted, or very sleepy.
RARE
  • Mood changes.
  • Dizziness.
  • Sleepiness.
  • Stomach and bowel problems (including upset stomach and/or tenderness, gas, painful muscle cramps, and gagging).
  • Skin rashes (including red, warm skin, or raised, itchy bumps or hives, or dry, cracked, blistered, or swollen skin).
  • Breast swelling and/or getting bigger.
  • Feeling of warmth.
  • General feeling of not feeling well or being "off."
  • Pain.
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia).
  • Premenstrual-like symptoms and changes in periods.
  • Hives.
  • Acne.
  • Too much hair growth.
  • Hair loss.
  • Weight gain.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to progesterone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you have vaginal bleeding that your doctor has not checked (not your normal period).
  • Do not use if you have had a miscarriage and your doctor thinks there might still be tissue in your womb.
  • Do not use if you have a pregnancy outside your womb (ectopic pregnancy).
  • Do not use if you have or have had severe liver problems.

  • Do not use if you have or are suspected of having breast cancer or cancer in your reproductive organs.
  • Do not use if you have or have had blood clots in your legs, lungs, eyes, or elsewhere in your body.
  • Do not use if you have porphyria (a rare blood disorder).
  • Do not use if you had yellow skin and eyes (jaundice), severe itching, or skin blisters during a previous pregnancy.
  • This medicine should not be used by people under 18 years of age.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you get symptoms of a heart attack, like chest or back pain, sudden trouble breathing, sweating, or feeling dizzy.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you get symptoms of a stroke, like a bad headache, throwing up, feeling dizzy, or changes in how you see or talk.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you get symptoms of blood clots in your eyes or body, like eye pain or swelling in your ankles, feet, or hands.
  • Seek immediate medical help if your depression gets worse.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you get very bad headaches or changes in your vision.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel sleepy or dizzy while taking Prolutex, as it might affect your ability to do so safely.
