How to Use

Dosage

Usually 60 mg of active substance per kg of body weight, once a week. Your dose is based on your body weight.

Method

Dissolved with the included solvent and given slowly as an intravenous infusion. The infusion rate should not exceed 0.08 ml/kg of body weight per minute.

This medicine is administered once a week; a specific maximum daily dose is not mentioned.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to the active substance alpha-1 proteinase inhibitor or other ingredients in Prolastina, or if you have a known immunoglobulin (IgA) deficiency, as severe allergic reactions can occur.
  • Inform your doctor if you have severe heart failure, as Prolastina might cause a temporary increase in blood volume.
  • Tell your doctor or nurse immediately if you experience any signs of an allergic reaction during the infusion.
  • As this medicine is made from human blood or plasma, the risk of transmitting infections cannot be completely ruled out; your doctor may recommend hepatitis A and B vaccinations.
  • Quitting smoking is recommended as tobacco smoke reduces Prolastina's effectiveness in the lungs.
