How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the right amount for you. For adults, the usual amount of replacement fluid or dialysis fluid is 500-3000 ml per hour, which is about 48-60 liters per day. For children, the amount is 1000-2000 ml per hour per 1.73 m² of body surface area, with some younger children needing up to 4000 ml. Children should not get more than the maximum adult dose.

Method

This medicine is given into your vein or during hemodialysis. It comes in a bag with two parts that must be mixed right before use. Always use clean (aseptic) methods.

Important

For adults, the maximum daily amount is about 48-60 liters. For children, the total amount given per day should not be more than the maximum amount for adults.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Changes in blood salt levels (electrolyte imbalance, such as low phosphate)
  • High or low bicarbonate levels in blood (metabolic alkalosis or acidosis)
  • Too much or too little water in the body (hyper- or hypovolemia)
  • High blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia)
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Muscle cramps
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • High calcium levels in blood (hypercalcemia)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have high potassium levels in your blood (hyperkalemia).
  • Do not use if you have high bicarbonate levels in your blood (metabolic alkalosis).
  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to corn, as this medicine may contain corn ingredients.
  • Do not use this treatment if you have kidney failure with too much tissue breakdown, unless the treatment can effectively remove waste from your blood.

  • Do not use if the blood pressure in your access point for treatment is too low.
  • Do not use if you have a bleeding disorder or a high risk of bleeding.
  • Your doctor will regularly check your blood balance (acids, bases, and salts) and blood sugar levels during treatment, especially if you have diabetes.
  • Always tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking, as they may need to be adjusted.
