How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose is 0.1 ml of Primovist per kilogram of body weight.

Method

Primovist is given into a vein with a small needle just before your MRI scan. You will be observed for at least 30 minutes after the injection.

Important

Only one dose is given per examination. Allow at least 7 days before a possible next injection.

  • Reactions at the injection site (like redness, coldness, irritation, or pain)
  • Feeling of warmth
  • Chills
  • Fatigue
  • Unusual feeling or general discomfort
  • Inability to sit or stand still
  • Uncontrolled shaking
  • Heart palpitations
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Unpleasant feeling in the mouth
  • Increased saliva production
  • Red rash with bumps or spots
  • Increased sweating
  • Fast heart rate
  • Restlessness
  • Low blood pressure
  • Swelling of the tongue, throat, or face
  • Runny nose, sneezing, cough
  • Red, watery, and itchy eyes
  • Abdominal pain
  • Hives
  • Reduced skin sensation or sensitivity, itching, paleness

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Primovist if you are allergic to disodium gadoxetate or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had asthma or allergies like hay fever or hives.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had an allergic reaction to a contrast agent before.
  • Tell your doctor if you have reduced kidney function.
  • If you have severe kidney problems or have recently had a liver transplant, Primovist should be avoided as it can cause a severe hardening of the skin and connective tissues (NSF).

  • Tell your doctor if you have severe heart or blood vessel disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low potassium levels in your blood.
  • Tell your doctor if you or a family member have had problems with your heart's electrical rhythm (long QT syndrome).
  • Tell your doctor if your heart rhythm has changed after using medicines.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a pacemaker or any iron-containing implants or clips in your body.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as Primovist should not be used during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary.
  • Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to start. Your doctor will advise whether to continue or stop breastfeeding for 24 hours after using Primovist.
