Primaspan
Primaspan contains acetylsalicylic acid, which helps prevent blood clots from forming in blood vessels, such as those in the heart and brain.
How to Use
Dosage
The usual dose is 100-300 mg daily. For first aid in a heart attack, take 250-500 mg (5-10 tablets of 50 mg or 2.5-5 tablets of 100 mg).
Method
Swallow the tablets whole with plenty of liquid, like a glass of water. For first aid in a heart attack, chew or crush the tablets to help them work faster.
The usual maximum recommended dose is 300 mg daily. For first aid in a heart attack, up to 500 mg may be taken.
Possible Side Effects
- •Dizziness
- •Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
- •Nosebleeds, runny nose
- •Stomach and intestinal inflammation and pain, bleeding in the digestive tract
- •Rash, itching
- •Bleeding in urinary or genital organs
- •Iron deficiency anemia
- •Bleeding in the brain or inside the skull
- •Bruises
- •Nasal congestion
- •Gum bleeding, ulcers in the digestive tract
- •Liver failure
- •Hives
- •Hypersensitivity, drug allergy, swelling of face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat
- •Anemia due to bleeding
- •Intramuscular bleeding
- •Hole (perforation) in the lining of the digestive tract
- •Elevated liver enzyme levels in blood tests
- •Kidney problems, acute kidney failure
- •Anaphylactic shock (severe allergic reaction)
- •Breakdown of red blood cells, which can cause anemia
- •Heart and breathing symptoms (linked to an allergic reaction)
- •Bleeding during surgery
- •Respiratory disease
- •Intestinal blockage (Intestinal Diaphragm Disease)
Important Warnings
- Do not take if you are allergic to acetylsalicylic acid or similar pain relievers.
- Do not take if you have had an asthma attack from salicylates or other anti-inflammatory pain relievers.
- Do not take if you have a tendency to bleed easily (e.g., hemophilia).
- Do not take if you have or have had stomach or duodenal ulcers.
- Do not take if you have severe liver, kidney, or heart failure.

- Do not take if you are using 15 mg or more of methotrexate per week.
- Talk to your doctor as acetylsalicylic acid increases the risk of bleeding during surgery.
- Do not use doses over 100 mg per day during the last three months of pregnancy.
Use in Elderly Patients
Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Initiation of treatment under supervision of a physician. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Consider potential interactions especially with other drugs that increase the risk of bleeding. (updated 19.9.2025)
