How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 1 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow your tablet(s) with at least half a glass of water. Take your entire daily dose once, either right before or during a big breakfast. If you skip breakfast, take the medicine at the time your doctor tells you. It is important not to miss any meals while taking Priglide. The tablet can be split into equal halves.

Important

The most you should take is 6 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Severe low blood sugar, which can lead to loss of consciousness, seizures, or coma.
  • Liver problems, including yellow skin and eyes (jaundice), bile flow issues, liver inflammation (hepatitis), or liver failure.
  • Severe allergic reactions, including swelling of blood vessels (often with a skin rash), breathing problems, and a drop in blood pressure, sometimes leading to shock.
  • Changes in blood cells, such as a decrease in platelets (leading to increased risk of bleeding or bruising), white blood cells (increased risk of infections), or red blood cells (pale skin, weakness, or shortness of breath).
  • Feeling sick (nausea), diarrhea, feeling full or bloated in the stomach, stomach discomfort, and belly pain.
  • Lower sodium (salt) levels in your blood, seen in blood tests.
  • Allergic skin reactions like itching, rash, hives, and increased sensitivity to sunlight. Some mild allergic reactions can become severe.
  • Vision problems at the start of treatment due to changes in blood sugar, which usually go away soon.
  • Higher levels of liver enzymes.
  • Weight gain.
  • Hair loss.
  • Changes in taste.
  • Allergic reactions to glimepiride or similar medicines (sulfonylureas, sulfonamides).
  • Very low platelet count (less than 10,000/µl) and a blood disorder called thrombocytopenic purpura.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Priglide if you are allergic to glimepiride or similar medicines (sulfonylureas, sulfonamides) or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have type 1 diabetes.
  • Do not take if you have too much acid in your body (ketoacidosis).
  • Do not take if you are very sleepy or unconscious due to very high blood sugar (diabetic coma).
  • Do not take if your kidneys or liver are severely damaged; you may need to start insulin treatment.
