How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 1 mg once a day. Your doctor will adjust it to keep your blood sugar stable.

Method

Take the tablet with at least half a glass of water, usually once a day before or during breakfast. Do not skip meals while taking this medicine.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 6 mg.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Severe low blood sugar, including loss of consciousness, seizures, or coma.

  • Abnormal liver function, including yellow skin and eyes (jaundice), problems with bile flow, liver inflammation, or liver failure.

  • Severe allergic reactions, including blood vessel inflammation (often with rash), breathing difficulties, low blood pressure, and possibly shock.

  • Decreased blood cell counts, such as platelets (increased bleeding/bruising risk), white blood cells (increased infection risk), or red blood cells (pale skin, weakness, breathing difficulty).

  • Weight gain.

  • Hair loss.

  • Changes in taste.

  • Digestive issues like nausea, diarrhea, feeling full or bloated, an uncomfortable stomach feeling, and abdominal pain.

  • Low blood sodium levels (shown in blood tests).

  • Skin allergies such as itching, rash, hives, and increased sensitivity to sunlight. Mild reactions can become severe.

  • Temporary vision problems at the start of treatment due to changes in blood sugar, which usually resolve.

  • Increased liver enzyme levels.

  • Thrombocytopenic purpura (a bleeding disorder due to low platelets).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to glimepiride, other medicines in the same group (sulfonylureas and sulfonamides), or any other ingredient of this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have type 1 diabetes, high acid levels in your body (ketoacidosis), or if you are drowsy/unconscious due to very high blood sugar (diabetic coma).
  • Do not take if your kidney or liver function is severely impaired; insulin treatment may be needed instead.
  • Always talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure about taking Priglide.
  • Alcohol can unpredictably increase or decrease the blood sugar-lowering effect of Priglide.

  • Do not use Priglide during pregnancy or while breastfeeding; inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant.
  • Be careful when driving or operating machinery, as low or high blood sugar, or vision problems, can affect your ability.
  • Always carry sugar (e.g., glucose tablets or sugar cubes) with you to treat low blood sugar. Sweeteners do not help.
  • Inform your doctor about any factors that increase your risk of low blood sugar so they can adjust your dose or treatment plan.
