How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 150–600 mg per day, as prescribed by your doctor.

Method

Take the capsules by mouth with water, either two or three times a day, at approximately the same times each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is typically 600 mg. Do not take more than prescribed by your doctor.

RARE
  • Decreased appetite, weight loss
  • Low or high blood sugar
  • Feeling different about yourself, restless, depressed, agitated, mood changes
  • Trouble finding words, seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations), strange dreams, panic attacks, not caring about things (apathy), anger, unusually high spirits, mental problems, trouble thinking clearly, increased sex drive, sexual problems (like not being able to have an orgasm or delayed ejaculation)
  • Changes in vision (unusual eye movements, tunnel vision, seeing flashes of light, jerky eye movements, weak reflexes, very active, dizzy when standing, sensitive skin, loss of taste, burning feeling, shaking when moving, less aware, fainting, sensitive to loud sounds, feeling unwell)
  • Eye problems (dry eyes, swollen eyes, eye pain, poor vision, watery eyes, irritated eyes)
  • Heart problems (irregular heartbeat, fast heartbeat, low or high blood pressure, heart failure)
  • Hot flashes, redness
  • Breathing problems (dry nose, stuffy nose)
  • More saliva, heartburn, numbness around the mouth
  • Sweating, skin rash, chills, fever
  • Muscle twitches, swollen joints, stiff muscles, muscle pain, neck pain
  • Urinary problems (trouble or pain peeing, leaking urine)
  • Feeling weak, thirsty, chest tightness
  • Changes in blood or liver tests
  • Allergic reactions (swollen face, itching, hives, runny nose, nosebleeds, cough, snoring, painful periods, cold hands and feet)
  • Smell problems, shaky vision, depth perception changes, brighter vision, vision loss
  • Large pupils, cross-eyed
  • Cold sweats, tight throat, swollen tongue
  • Inflammation of the pancreas, trouble swallowing
  • Slow or less body movement, trouble writing
  • Fluid in abdomen or lungs
  • Seizures
  • Changes in heart's electrical activity (ECG) related to rhythm problems
  • Muscle damage
  • Breast discharge, abnormal breast growth (including in men), missed periods
  • Kidney problems (kidney failure, less urine, unable to pee)
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Acting without control, self-harm or suicidal thoughts/behavior
  • Severe allergic reactions (trouble breathing, eye inflammation, severe skin rash with red patches, blisters, peeling skin, sores in mouth/throat/nose/genitals/eyes, fever, flu-like symptoms like Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Parkinson-like symptoms (shaking, slow movement, stiff muscles)
  • Liver failure or inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Becoming dependent on the medicine
  • Shallow breathing

Important Warnings

  • If you experience an allergic reaction, such as swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or a widespread rash, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Severe skin reactions can occur. Stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical attention if you notice such symptoms.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness and drowsiness, which may increase the risk of falls. Be careful until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if your vision changes, such as blurred vision or loss of vision.
  • If you have diabetes and gain weight while on this medication, your diabetes medicine may need to be adjusted.

  • If you have a heart condition, tell your doctor before starting this medicine, as it may cause heart failure.
  • If you notice a decrease in urination, tell your doctor, as the medicine may cause kidney problems.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you take this medicine with other pain medications that cause constipation, tell your doctor about any stomach problems like constipation.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever misused alcohol, prescription medicines, or illegal drugs, as you may have a higher risk of becoming dependent on this medicine.
  • Seizures may occur during or shortly after stopping use. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience seizures.
  • If you have serious underlying conditions, such as liver or kidney disease, tell your doctor, as the medicine may cause impaired brain function.
  • If you have breathing difficulties, shallow breathing, nervous system disorders, or kidney problems, contact your doctor.
  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless specifically advised by your doctor, as it may cause birth defects. Use reliable contraception if you are a woman of childbearing age.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, drowsiness, and reduced concentration. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • Alcohol consumption is not recommended during Pregabalin ratiopharm treatment.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Note especially central nervous system adverse effects. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Addiction may develop. (updated 14.4.2025)
