How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, which is usually between 150-600 mg per day.

Method

Take this medicine by mouth. Swallow the capsule whole with water, either two or three times a day at roughly the same times.

Important

Do not take more than 600 mg in one day.

  • Difficulty or pain urinating, or incontinence
  • Weakness, thirst, or chest tightness
  • Changes in blood/liver tests
  • Allergic reactions like face swelling, itching, hives, runny nose, nosebleeds, cough, snoring
  • Painful periods or cold hands/feet
  • Smell problems or wavy vision
  • Changes in depth perception, brighter vision, or vision loss
  • Dilated pupils or crossed eyes
  • Cold sweats, tight throat, swollen tongue
  • Pancreatitis or trouble swallowing
  • Slow or reduced body movement
  • Difficulty writing
  • Fluid in abdomen or lungs

  • Changes in heart's electrical activity (EKG)

  • Breast discharge, abnormal breast growth, or breast growth in men

  • Parkinson-like symptoms (e.g., tremor, slow movement, stiffness)
  • Liver failure
  • Hepatitis (liver inflammation)
  • Dependence on Pregabalin

Important Warnings

  • If your face, lips, tongue, or throat swell, or you get a widespread rash, call your doctor right away.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor immediately if you notice severe skin reactions like red, blistering, or peeling skin.
  • This medicine can make you dizzy and sleepy, which can make older people fall more easily. Be careful until you know how it affects you.
  • Your vision might become blurry or you could lose your sight. Tell your doctor right away if your vision changes.
  • If you have diabetes and gain weight while taking this medicine, your diabetes medication might need to be adjusted.

  • Heart failure has been reported in some patients, especially older ones with heart disease. Tell your doctor if you have any heart problems.
  • Some patients have had kidney problems leading to less urination. Tell your doctor if you notice you are urinating less.
  • Some patients have had thoughts of harming themselves or suicidal behavior. If you have such thoughts, contact your doctor right away.
  • If you take this medicine with other drugs that cause constipation (like some pain medicines), you might have stomach issues. Tell your doctor if you are constipated.
  • Some people can become dependent on this medicine. If you are worried about this, talk to your doctor. Stopping suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms.
  • Seizures have happened during or after stopping this medicine. If you have a seizure, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Brain problems have been reported in some patients who took this medicine and also had other serious illnesses like liver or kidney disease. Tell your doctor if you have any severe medical condition.
  • Breathing problems have been reported. If you have nerve or breathing issues, kidney problems, or are over 65, your doctor might change your dose. Contact your doctor if you have trouble breathing or shallow breaths.
  • Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor tells you to, as it might cause birth defects. Women who can get pregnant must use birth control.
  • This medicine can make you dizzy, sleepy, and affect your focus. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how it affects you.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Note especially central nervous system adverse effects. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Addiction may develop. (updated 14.4.2025)
