How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the right dose, usually between 150-600 mg per day.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water, either two or three times a day at around the same times each day, as instructed by your doctor.

Important

Do not take more than 600 mg per day, or more than your doctor has prescribed.

  • Loss of inhibition, suicidal behavior, suicidal thoughts
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., breathing difficulties, eye inflammation, severe skin reaction with red patches, blisters, peeling skin, sores in mouth/throat/nose/genitals/eyes, fever, flu-like symptoms, Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • Yellow skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Parkinson-like symptoms such as tremors, slow movement, and muscle stiffness
  • Liver failure
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Developing dependence on the medicine

Important Warnings

  • If you get swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or a widespread rash, contact your doctor right away as these could be signs of a severe allergic reaction.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor immediately if you get severe skin rashes, blistering, or peeling skin (like Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
  • This medicine can cause dizziness and sleepiness, which might increase your risk of falling, especially if you are older. Be careful until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • If you notice any changes in your vision, like blurry vision or loss of sight, tell your doctor right away. These changes are usually temporary.
  • Tell your doctor if you have any heart problems, as some patients have experienced heart failure while taking this medicine.

  • If you notice that you are urinating less while taking this medicine, tell your doctor. Some patients have reported kidney problems.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you have constipation, especially if you also take other medicines for pain that can cause constipation.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of alcohol, prescription medicine, or drug abuse, as you may have a higher risk of becoming dependent on this medicine.
  • If you have seizures while taking this medicine or soon after stopping it, contact your doctor right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a severe medical condition like liver or kidney disease, as some patients have reported brain problems (encephalopathy) while taking this medicine.
  • Contact your doctor if you have breathing difficulties or shallow breathing, especially if you have nerve problems, lung problems, kidney problems, or are over 65 years old.
