How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your specific dose, usually between 150-600 mg per day.

Method

Take the capsules whole with water either twice (morning and evening) or three times (morning, afternoon, and evening) a day, around the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 600 mg.

  • Liver failure
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Developing drug dependence

Important Warnings

  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience signs of an allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or a widespread skin rash.
  • Stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you develop severe skin reactions, such as red patches or blisters on your skin.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness and drowsiness, which may increase the risk of falls, especially in older adults. Be careful until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • Tell your doctor right away if your vision changes or becomes blurry.
  • If you have diabetes and gain weight while taking this medicine, your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication.

  • Tell your doctor if you have heart disease, as this medicine may cause heart failure.
  • If your kidney function gets worse or you notice less urination while taking this medicine, tell your doctor.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience constipation, especially if you are taking other medicines that can cause it (like some pain medicines).
  • If you have a history of alcohol or drug abuse, or addiction to medicines, you may have a higher risk of becoming dependent on this medicine.
  • If you experience seizures while taking this medicine or soon after stopping it, contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you have severe liver or kidney disease, tell your doctor, as this medicine may affect your brain function.
  • If you have breathing difficulties, shallow breathing, a nervous system or lung disease, or are over 65 years old, discuss this with your doctor.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, as it can cause withdrawal symptoms like sleep problems, headache, anxiety, or nausea. Your doctor will help you stop the medicine safely.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects your ability to drive and stay alert.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Note especially central nervous system adverse effects. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Addiction may develop. (updated 14.4.2025)
