How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you your dose, usually between 150 mg and 600 mg per day.

Method

Take the capsules whole with water, exactly as your doctor tells you. You will take them either two or three times a day, around the same times each day.

Important

Do not take more than 600 mg in one day.

COMMON
  • Dizziness

  • Dry mouth, constipation, nausea, or vomiting
  • Swelling in your body, especially arms and legs
  • Feeling drunk or clumsy
RARE
  • Loss of vision
  • Swelling of the tongue
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis)
  • Seizures
  • Kidney failure or reduced urine
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide
  • Severe allergic reactions, including difficulty breathing or severe skin rashes with blisters
  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)

Important Warnings

  • If you get swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or a widespread rash, contact a doctor right away.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you notice severe skin reactions like red patches, blisters, or peeling skin.
  • This medicine can make you dizzy and sleepy, which may increase falls, especially for older people. Be careful until you know how it affects you.
  • This medicine might cause blurred vision, vision loss, or other changes to your eyesight. Tell your doctor right away if your vision changes.
  • Some people have reported heart failure. Tell your doctor if you have had any heart problems before taking this medicine.

  • Some patients have had thoughts of harming themselves or suicide. If you have these thoughts or behaviors, contact your doctor right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever misused alcohol, prescription medicines, or illegal drugs, as you may have a higher risk of becoming dependent on this medicine.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly. If you need to stop, your doctor will tell you how to do it slowly over at least one week to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
  • Do not use this medicine during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor tells you to, as it may cause birth defects.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, sleepiness, and trouble concentrating. Do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.
