How to Use

Dosage

The usual daily dose is between 150 mg and 600 mg.

Method

Take the capsules orally with water, two or three times a day, as your doctor instructs. If twice a day, take one in the morning and one in the evening. If three times a day, take one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one in the evening.

Important

Do not take more than 600 mg in one day.

Important Warnings

  • If you notice allergic reactions like swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or a widespread rash, contact your doctor right away.
  • Severe skin reactions, such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis, have been reported. Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor immediately if you notice any severe skin reactions.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness and drowsiness, which might increase the risk of falls in older patients. Be careful until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • This medicine can cause blurred vision, loss of vision, or other vision changes, which are usually temporary. Tell your doctor right away if your vision changes.
  • If you have diabetes and gain weight while taking this medicine, your diabetes medication might need to be adjusted.

  • If you take other medicines for spinal cord injury pain or spasticity, side effects like drowsiness may become stronger when taken with this medicine.
  • Heart failure has been reported in some patients, mostly elderly ones with heart disease. Tell your doctor if you have any heart problems before taking this medicine.
  • Kidney failure has been reported. If you notice less urination while taking this medicine, tell your doctor. Stopping the medicine might improve this.
  • Some patients taking medicines for epilepsy, including this one, have had thoughts of harming themselves or suicidal behavior. If you have these thoughts or behaviors, contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you take other medicines that can cause constipation (like some pain relievers) along with this medicine, you might get stomach problems such as constipation or a blocked bowel. Tell your doctor if you have constipation, especially if you are prone to it.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever misused alcohol, prescription medicines, or illegal drugs, or if you have been dependent on them, as you might have a higher risk of becoming dependent on this medicine.
  • Seizures have been reported during or shortly after stopping this medicine. If you have seizures, contact your doctor right away.
  • Some patients taking this medicine have reported problems with brain function (encephalopathy), especially if they had other serious medical conditions. Tell your doctor if you have a serious illness like liver or kidney disease.
  • Breathing difficulties have been reported. If you have nervous system problems, breathing problems, kidney problems, or are over 65 years old, your doctor might adjust your dose. Contact your doctor if you have trouble breathing or shallow breaths.
