How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual dose is 10-40 mg once a day, preferably in the evening.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food. You can divide the tablet if needed.

Important

The highest dose you should take in one day is 40 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Itching, skin rashes, hives, hair loss, or problems with your scalp and hair.
  • Dizziness, feeling tired, headache, or trouble sleeping.
  • Problems with urination or your bladder (like painful or more frequent urination, especially at night), or issues with sexual function.
  • Stomach problems like indigestion, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, or gas.
  • Vision problems, such as blurred or double vision.
  • Tendon inflammation, which can sometimes lead to tendon tears.
RARE
  • Skin that is sensitive to light. Severe skin disease that resembles lupus erythematosus.
  • Numbness, tingling, or burning sensations, which may be signs of nerve damage. Nightmares, memory loss, depression. Myasthenia gravis or ocular myasthenia (diseases causing muscle weakness).
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), pancreas inflammation (pancreatitis), or yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice). Severe liver damage or liver failure.
  • Muscle inflammation, pain, or weakness. Muscle rupture. Persistent muscle weakness.
  • Abnormal liver test results (increased liver enzymes in the blood).
  • Breathing problems, including a long-lasting cough, shortness of breath, or fever.
  • Diabetes (more likely if you have high blood sugar, high blood fats, are overweight, or have high blood pressure).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pravastatin or any other ingredients in it.
  • Do not take if you have a liver disease or if blood tests show problems with your liver function.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Stop taking and tell your doctor right away if you get unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, or cramps, especially if you also feel sick or have a fever. This could be a sign of a rare but serious muscle condition.
  • Get help from a doctor immediately if you have a serious allergic reaction. Symptoms include low blood pressure, swelling of your face, lips, throat, or tongue, trouble swallowing or breathing, and severe skin rash or hives.
