How to Use

Dosage

Usually 10-40 mg once a day, preferably in the evening. Your doctor will tell you the right dose.

Method

Take the tablet once a day, preferably in the evening. Swallow it whole with water, with or without food. The tablet can be divided into two equal halves.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 40 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Itching, rash, hives, scalp and hair problems, including hair loss.
  • Dizziness, tiredness, headache, sleep problems, including insomnia.
  • Urinary problems (painful or frequent urination, increased need to urinate at night) and sexual function disorders.
  • Stomach and bowel problems, such as indigestion, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and gas.
  • Vision disturbances, such as blurred vision and double vision.
  • Tendon inflammation, which can sometimes worsen due to tendon tears.
RARE
  • Skin sensitivity to light.
  • Tingling, burning, itching, or numbness, which might be a sign of nerve damage.
  • Severe skin disease (e.g., lupus-like).
  • Liver or pancreas inflammation, yellowing of skin/eyes (jaundice), or rapid liver cell death.
  • Inflammation in one or more muscles causing pain or weakness (myositis, polymyositis), muscle pain or weakness.
  • Increased liver enzymes (transaminases), which can be a sign of liver problems.
  • Persistent muscle weakness.
  • Nightmares, memory loss, depression.
  • Breathing problems, including persistent cough and/or shortness of breath or fever.
  • Diabetes (more likely if you have high blood sugar, high fat levels, are overweight, or have high blood pressure).
  • Myasthenia gravis (general muscle weakness) or ocular myasthenia (eye muscle weakness).
  • Muscle rupture.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to pravastatin or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take if you have liver disease or abnormal liver test results.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Stop taking and tell your doctor right away if you get unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, or cramps, especially if you also feel unwell or have a fever.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience sudden severe allergic reactions like swelling of the face/lips/tongue/throat, difficulty breathing, or severe skin rash.
