How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you your dose, usually starting with a small dose (e.g., 0.5 mg) two to three times a day.

Method

Take the medicine with plenty of fluid, such as a glass of water. It's best to take the first dose in the evening before bed.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose; never exceed it.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Pounding heart (palpitations)
  • Shortness of breath, stuffy nose
  • Stomach problems (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation), dry mouth
  • Headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, tiredness, feeling weak
  • Feeling down, nervousness
  • Rash
  • Frequent need to urinate
  • Vision problems
  • Low blood pressure when standing up
RARE
  • Joint pain
  • Increased sweating, itching
  • Sleep problems
  • Red eyes
  • Ringing in ears (tinnitus)
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Chest pain
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nosebleeds
  • Impotence
  • Allergic reactions
  • Seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations)
  • Fainting, swelling
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis)
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Unusual hair loss or thinning, skin rash (lichen planus)
  • Difficulty controlling urine (incontinence)
  • Long-lasting and/or painful erection

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to prazosin or any other ingredients in this medicine (quinazolines).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have chest pain during exercise, heart failure, or kidney or liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have narcolepsy (a sleep disorder) or circulation problems in your brain.
  • If you are having cataract surgery, tell your eye doctor that you are taking or have taken Pratsiol.
  • At the start of treatment, especially in older people, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded. Take your first dose in the evening to help prevent this.

  • Not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, as Pratsiol can increase their blood pressure-lowering effect.
  • Physical exertion, heat, alcohol, and certain erectile dysfunction medicines can increase the effect of Pratsiol and lower blood pressure too much.
  • Generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Ask your doctor for advice.
  • May cause tiredness and dizziness at the start of treatment. Avoid driving and tasks requiring concentration until you know how the medicine affects you.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. A significant adverse effect is orthostatic hypotension. Consider potential significant interactions. (updated 19.5.2025)
