How to Use

Dosage

The starting dose is usually 0.26 mg once daily for the first week. Your doctor will gradually increase the dose until your symptoms are controlled, typically to 1.05 mg daily.

Method

Take one tablet once a day, around the same time each day. You can take it with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not chew, break, or crush the tablet.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 3.15 mg of pramipexole.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sleepy
  • Feeling dizzy
  • Uncontrolled movements (dyskinesia)
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
  • Seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not real (hallucinations)
  • Strange dreams
  • Feeling confused
  • Strong urges to do unusual things (impulse control disorder)
  • Feeling tired (fatigue)
  • Swelling, especially in the legs (fluid retention)
  • Headache
  • Low blood pressure
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Blurred vision or other vision problems
  • Weight loss and less appetite
RARE
  • False beliefs or extreme suspicion (delusions, paranoia)
  • Feeling restless
  • Severe confusion, reduced awareness, or loss of contact with reality (delirium)
  • Feeling very sleepy during the day or falling asleep suddenly
  • Memory loss
  • Increased or restless movements (hyperkinesia)
  • Fainting
  • Weight gain
  • Allergic reactions (like rash, itching)
  • Heart failure (problems that can cause shortness of breath or swollen ankles)
  • Shortness of breath or hiccup
  • Lung infection (pneumonia)
  • Compulsive urges to do potentially harmful things (like excessive gambling, overeating, spending, or increased sexual interest)
  • Feeling overly excited or agitated (mania)
  • Spontaneous erection
  • Symptoms like depression, anxiety, fatigue, sweating, or pain when stopping or reducing the dose

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease.
  • You might see, hear, or feel things that are not real (hallucinations), mostly visual.
  • You might have uncontrolled movements (dyskinesia), especially if you also take levodopa.
  • You might have trouble keeping your body or neck straight (dystonia).
  • You might feel very sleepy or fall asleep suddenly. Do not drive or operate machines.

  • Tell your doctor if you have symptoms like confusion, agitation, or losing touch with reality (mania or delirium).
  • Your eyesight might get worse. Have regular eye check-ups.
  • You might have heart problems or low blood pressure when standing up. Your blood pressure should be checked regularly.
  • You might have strong urges to do unusual things (impulse control disorder), such as excessive gambling, overeating, spending, or increased sexual desires.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor first, as it can cause serious withdrawal symptoms.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
