How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 0.26 mg per day for the first week, and your doctor will gradually increase the dose.

Method

Take one tablet once a day, at about the same time each day. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew, break, or crush it. You can take it with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 3.15 mg, if your doctor deems it necessary.

Possible Side Effects

  • Drowsiness

  • Uncontrolled movements (dyskinesia)
  • Nausea
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that aren't real)
  • Abnormal dreams
  • Confusion
  • Strong urge to behave unusually
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Fluid retention, usually in the legs (peripheral edema)
  • Headache
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Blurred vision
  • Weight loss, including decreased appetite
RARE
  • Delusions, paranoia (e.g., excessive fear for one's own well-being)
  • Restlessness
  • Delirium (reduced awareness, confusion, loss of contact with reality)
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness and sudden onset of sleep
  • Memory loss (amnesia)
  • Increased movements and inability to stay still (hyperkinesia)
  • Fainting
  • Weight gain
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching)
  • Heart failure (heart problems that can cause shortness of breath or swollen ankles)
  • Inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone
  • Shortness of breath
  • Hiccups
  • Pneumonia
  • Uncontrolled urges to act on impulses that could harm yourself or others, such as gambling, changed or increased sexual interest, excessive shopping or spending, or binge eating
  • Mania (feeling agitated, overly happy, or overexcited)
  • Spontaneous erection
  • Depression, apathy, anxiety, fatigue, sweating, or pain (withdrawal symptoms upon stopping or reducing treatment)

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • You might see or hear things that aren't real (hallucinations).
  • You might have uncontrolled movements, especially if you also take levodopa.
  • You might feel very sleepy or fall asleep suddenly. Do not drive or operate machines if this happens.
  • Tell your doctor if you have mental health problems like psychosis or mania (feeling overly happy or excited).

  • Get regular eye check-ups, as vision problems can occur.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems or low blood pressure, as your blood pressure needs to be monitored.
  • You may experience strong urges, such as gambling, overeating, or increased sexual desire. Tell your doctor about these.
  • Do not stop taking or change your dose suddenly without talking to your doctor, as this can cause withdrawal symptoms like depression or anxiety.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Common adverse effects include orthostatic hypotension, confusion, sudden episodes of deep sleep, impulse control disorders and lower limb edema.. . (updated 6.10.2025)
