How to Use

Dosage

Start with 0.26 mg once daily for the first week. Your doctor will slowly increase the dose every 5-7 days until your symptoms are controlled. The usual maintenance dose is 1.05 mg daily, but it can be adjusted from 0.26 mg up to 3.15 mg daily if needed.

Method

Take one tablet once a day, around the same time each day. You can take it with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not chew, break, or crush the tablet, as this can lead to an overdose.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 3.15 mg of pramipexole.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Uncontrolled movements (dyskinesia)
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not real (hallucinations)
  • Strange dreams
  • Confusion
  • Strong urges to do unusual things (like gambling, overeating, or increased sexual urges)
  • Feeling very tired
  • Swelling, usually in the legs (fluid retention)
  • Headache
  • Low blood pressure (feeling dizzy when standing up)
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Blurred vision or other eye problems
  • Weight loss or less appetite
RARE
  • False beliefs or feeling very suspicious (paranoia)
  • Feeling restless or agitated
  • Memory loss
  • Gaining weight
  • Allergic reactions (like skin rash, itching)
  • Heart problems (like heart failure, which can cause shortness of breath and swollen ankles)
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Hiccups
  • Lung infection (pneumonia)
  • Being overly excited or having extreme mood swings (mania)
  • Erections that happen without sexual stimulation

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can cause hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not real). Most are visual hallucinations.
  • You may feel sleepy or fall asleep suddenly, especially if you have Parkinson's disease. Do not drive or operate machines if this happens.
  • This medicine may cause you to develop strong urges or desires that you cannot control, like gambling, overeating, excessive shopping, or increased sexual urges. Tell your doctor if you experience these.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor. Your doctor will gradually lower your dose to avoid serious withdrawal symptoms.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
