How to Use

Dosage

Start with 0.26 mg once a day for the first week. Your doctor will slowly increase your dose every 5-7 days until your symptoms are under control. The usual daily dose is 1.05 mg, but it can be increased up to 3.15 mg per day if needed. A lower dose of 0.26 mg per day is also possible.

Method

Take the tablet once a day at about the same time each day. You can take it with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not chew, break, or crush the tablet, as this could release too much medicine too quickly.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 3.15 mg of pramipexole.

  • Increased movements and inability to stay still (hyperkinesia)
  • Fainting
  • Weight gain
  • Allergic reactions (like rash, itching)
  • Heart failure
  • Hormone problems (inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Hiccups
  • Pneumonia
  • Uncontrollable urges to act on impulses (e.g., strong urge to gamble, increased sexual interest, uncontrolled shopping or spending, binge eating or compulsive eating)
  • Mania (feeling excited, overjoyed, or overactive)
  • Spontaneous erections
  • Depression after stopping or reducing the dose (withdrawal syndrome)
  • Apathy after stopping or reducing the dose (withdrawal syndrome)
  • Anxiety after stopping or reducing the dose (withdrawal syndrome)
  • Tiredness after stopping or reducing the dose (withdrawal syndrome)
  • Sweating after stopping or reducing the dose (withdrawal syndrome)
  • Pain after stopping or reducing the dose (withdrawal syndrome)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to pramipexole or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there), involuntary movements (dyskinesia), muscle stiffness (dystonia), sleepiness, sudden sleep attacks, psychosis, vision problems, or severe heart or blood vessel problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your family notice unusual behaviors like gambling addiction, overeating, compulsive shopping, or increased sexual urges. Also tell your doctor if you or your family notice signs of mania or confusion.
  • If you stop or lower your dose, tell your doctor about symptoms like depression, anxiety, tiredness, sweating, or pain.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly; talk to your doctor first. Suddenly stopping can lead to a serious condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome.

  • Do not drive or use machines if you have hallucinations, feel sleepy, or fall asleep suddenly.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor, as this medicine should generally not be used during these times.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
