How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the exact dose. For Parkinson's, it's often 0.088 mg three times a day. For restless legs, it's usually once a day in the evening.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 3.3 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Abnormal, involuntary movements (dyskinesia)
  • Sleepiness
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Strong urge to behave unusually (e.g., gambling, overeating, spending)
  • Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not real)
  • Confusion
  • Insomnia (difficulty sleeping), abnormal dreams
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Fluid retention, usually in the legs (peripheral edema)
  • Headache
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • Constipation
  • Vision problems
  • Weight decrease, including reduced appetite
  • Restless legs syndrome symptoms starting earlier, becoming more intense, or spreading to other limbs (augmentation)
RARE
  • Paranoia (e.g., excessive worry about one's health)
  • Delusion (false belief)
  • Restlessness
  • Delirium (severe confusion, reduced awareness)
  • Excessive sleepiness during the day and sudden sleep attacks
  • Memory loss (amnesia)
  • Increased movements and inability to stay still (hyperkinesia)
  • Fainting
  • Weight increase
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching)
  • Heart failure (heart problems that can cause shortness of breath or ankle swelling)
  • Inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (body holds too much water)
  • Shortness of breath (dyspnea)
  • Hiccups
  • Pneumonia (lung infection)
  • Uncontrolled urges to act on harmful impulses (e.g., gambling, increased sexual interest, uncontrolled spending, binge/compulsive eating)
  • Mania (feeling overly excited, agitated)
  • Spontaneous erection

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to pramipexole or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, heart problems, low blood pressure, or mental health issues like seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations), confusion, or feeling overly excited (mania).
  • Inform your doctor if you have uncontrolled body movements (dyskinesia) or find it hard to keep your body or neck straight (dystonia).
  • This medicine can make you very sleepy or cause you to fall asleep suddenly. Do not drive or use machines if this happens.
  • You might have vision problems. Your eyes should be checked regularly during treatment.

  • Tell your doctor if you or your family notice new or unusual urges, such as a strong desire to gamble, overeat, spend too much, or have increased sexual urges.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as it can cause serious withdrawal symptoms like depression, anxiety, tiredness, sweating, or pain.
  • Be careful with alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can make you more sleepy.
  • This medicine is not for children under 18. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before using it.
