How to Use

Dosage

For Parkinson's disease, start with one 0.088 mg tablet three times a day. For restless legs syndrome, start with one 0.088 mg tablet once a day, 2-3 hours before bedtime. Your doctor will adjust your dose over time.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water, with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose for Parkinson's is 3.3 mg of pramipexole. For restless legs, the maximum daily dose is 0.54 mg (0.75 mg pramipexole salt). Your doctor will tell you your specific maximum dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Abnormal, uncontrolled body movements
  • Feeling sleepy or very tired
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Low blood pressure
  • Swelling, usually in the legs (fluid retention)
  • Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
  • Abnormal dreams
  • Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that aren't real)
  • Confusion
  • Vision problems
  • Weight loss or decreased appetite
  • Strong urges to behave unusually (e.g., gambling, overeating, excessive shopping, increased sexual desires)
  • Restless legs symptoms getting worse, starting earlier, or spreading to other body parts (augmentation)
RARE
  • Paranoia (excessive worry about one's well-being)
  • Delusions (false beliefs)
  • Restlessness
  • Delirium (confusion, reduced awareness of reality)
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness and suddenly falling asleep
  • Memory loss
  • Increased movements and inability to stay still (hyperkinesia)
  • Fainting
  • Weight gain
  • Allergic reactions (like rash or itching)
  • Heart failure (heart problems causing shortness of breath or swollen ankles)
  • Abnormal secretion of antidiuretic hormone
  • Shortness of breath
  • Hiccups
  • Pneumonia (lung infection)
  • Mania (feeling very excited or over-enthusiastic)
  • Spontaneous erection

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to pramipexole or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that aren't real).
  • Tell your doctor if you have abnormal, uncontrolled body movements (dyskinesia), especially if you also take levodopa.
  • Tell your doctor if you have dystonia (difficulty keeping your body and neck straight).

  • Tell your doctor if you feel very sleepy during the day or suddenly fall asleep.
  • Tell your doctor if you have symptoms of psychosis (like schizophrenia).
  • Tell your doctor if you have vision problems. Your eyes should be checked regularly during treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe heart or blood vessel problems, or low blood pressure when standing up. Your blood pressure should be checked regularly.
  • Tell your doctor if your restless legs symptoms get worse, start earlier in the day, or spread to other body parts.
  • Tell your doctor if you have strong urges or desires to act in unusual or harmful ways, like gambling, overeating, excessive spending, or unusual sexual thoughts/desires (impulse control disorders).
  • Tell your doctor if you have symptoms of mania (feeling overly excited) or delirium (confusion, reduced awareness).
  • Tell your doctor if you experience symptoms like depression, anxiety, tiredness, sweating, or pain when stopping or lowering your dose.
  • Be careful with alcohol or other medicines that make you drowsy, as this medicine can affect your ability to drive or use machines.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
