How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much to take. For Parkinson's, you usually start with a small dose three times a day. For restless legs, you typically take a small dose once a day in the evening.

Method

Take the tablets with or without food. Swallow them whole with water.

Important

For Parkinson's disease, the most you can take in a day is 3.3 mg. For restless legs syndrome, it's 0.54 mg. Always follow your doctor's instructions for your maximum dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Uncontrolled movements (dyskinesia)
  • Feeling sleepy or dizzy
  • Feeling sick to your stomach (nausea) or vomiting
  • Strong unusual urges (like gambling, overeating, overspending, increased sexual interest)
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations)
  • Feeling confused
  • Feeling tired or having trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Swelling, usually in the legs (edema)
  • Headache
  • Low blood pressure
  • Abnormal dreams
  • Constipation
  • Blurred vision or other vision problems
  • Weight loss, including less appetite
RARE
  • Feeling paranoid (overly worried about your health) or having false beliefs
  • Excessive sleepiness during the day or sudden sleep attacks
  • Memory loss
  • Increased restless movements (hyperkinesia)
  • Weight gain
  • Allergic reactions (like rash, itching)
  • Fainting
  • Heart problems (heart failure) causing shortness of breath or swollen ankles
  • Hiccups
  • Lung infection (pneumonia)
  • Mania (feeling overly excited, energetic, or over-enthusiastic)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pramipexole or any of its ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney or heart problems, or if you see or hear things that are not real (hallucinations), feel very sleepy, or have vision problems.
  • It is important to tell your doctor if you or your family notice new, strong urges, like gambling, overeating, or increased sexual interest, or if you feel very excited or confused.
  • This medicine can make you very sleepy or cause you to fall asleep suddenly. Do not drive or operate machines if you feel drowsy or have hallucinations.
  • Avoid taking this medicine with certain mental health drugs (antipsychotics). Be careful with alcohol and other sedatives, as they can increase sleepiness.

  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly. Always talk to your doctor first to gradually reduce the dose.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
