How to Use

Dosage

Take 300 mg (three 100 mg tablets) twice on the first day, then 300 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. You can take it with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 600 mg on the first day, then 300 mg daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Abnormal salt levels in the blood (may cause confusion and weakness).
  • Abnormal skin sensations, such as numbness, tingling, itching, or burning.
  • Headache.
  • Low potassium level in the blood.
  • Low magnesium level in the blood.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Loss of appetite, stomach pain or discomfort, bloating, dry mouth, changes in taste.
  • Heartburn (a burning feeling in the chest that rises to the throat).
  • Low levels of neutrophils in the blood (increases infection risk).
  • Fever.
  • Feeling weak, dizzy, tired, or sleepy.
  • Rash.
  • Itching.
  • Constipation.
  • Unpleasant feeling in the rectum.
  • Nasal congestion.
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Unpleasant feeling in the chest.
  • Abdominal bloating.
  • Mild to moderate nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea.
  • Belching.
  • Feeling nervous.
RARE
  • Anemia (symptoms include headache, tiredness, dizziness, shortness of breath, paleness).
  • Low platelet count in the blood (may lead to bleeding).
  • Low white blood cell count in the blood (may increase infection risk).
  • High eosinophil count in the blood (may be related to inflammation).
  • Inflammation of blood vessels.
  • Heart rhythm problems.
  • Seizures.
  • Nerve damage (neuropathy).
  • Irregular heartbeat, palpitations, slow or fast heart rate, low blood pressure.
  • Pancreatitis (may cause severe stomach pain).
  • Spleen malfunction (may cause severe stomach pain).
  • Severe kidney problems (increased or decreased urination, abnormal urine color).
  • High creatinine level in the blood.
  • Cough, hiccups.
  • Nosebleed.
  • Severe stabbing chest pain when breathing in.
  • Swollen lymph nodes.
  • Reduced sensitivity, especially on the skin.
  • Tremor.
  • High or low blood sugar levels.
  • Blurred vision, sensitivity to light.
  • Hair loss.
  • Mouth sores.
  • Chills, general feeling of being unwell.
  • Pain, back or neck pain, arm or leg pain.
  • Fluid retention in the body (swelling).
  • Menstrual disorders (abnormal vaginal bleeding).
  • Insomnia.
  • Speech problems (partial or complete inability to speak).
  • Swelling of the mouth.
  • Abnormal dreams or difficulty sleeping.
  • Coordination or balance problems.
  • Inflammation of mucous membranes.
  • Pneumonia (symptoms include shortness of breath and discolored phlegm).
  • High blood pressure in the lungs (can seriously harm the lungs and heart).
  • Unusual blood clotting, prolonged bleeding.
  • Severe allergic reactions, such as widespread blistering rash and skin peeling.
  • Mental health problems, such as seeing or hearing things that are not there.
  • Fainting.
  • Difficulty thinking or speaking, involuntary muscle twitching, especially in the hands.
  • Stroke (symptoms include pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in the limbs).
  • Blindness or a dark spot in your vision.
  • Heart failure or heart attack, which can lead to cardiac arrest and death, or sudden death due to heart rhythm problems.
  • Blood clot in the legs (symptoms include severe pain or swelling in the lower leg).
  • Blood clot in the lungs (symptoms include shortness of breath or pain when breathing).
  • Bleeding in the stomach or intestines (symptoms include vomiting blood or blood in stools).
  • Bowel obstruction (symptoms include abdominal bloating, vomiting, severe constipation, loss of appetite, and cramping stomach pain).
  • Breakdown of red blood cells and kidney failure (hemolytic uremic syndrome).
  • Decrease in all blood cell counts (red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets).
  • Widespread purple-red skin discolorations.
  • Swelling of the face or tongue.
  • Depression.
  • Double vision.
  • Chest pain.
  • Adrenal gland problems (may cause weakness, tiredness, loss of appetite, skin discoloration).
  • Pituitary gland problems (may reduce sex hormone levels).
  • Hearing problems.
  • Pseudoaldosteronism (high blood pressure and low potassium in the blood).
  • Confusion.
  • Skin redness.
  • Serious liver problems (symptoms include yellow skin/eyes, dark urine, pale stools, stomach pain, loss of appetite, unusual tiredness/weakness).
  • Severe vomiting or diarrhea that may make the medicine not work as well.
  • Severe allergic reaction (requires urgent medical attention).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to posaconazole or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are using certain medicines for allergies, stomach problems, heart conditions, migraines, or high cholesterol, as this can cause serious heart rhythm problems.
  • Do not take if you are starting or increasing your dose of a cancer medicine called venetoclax.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had an allergic reaction to other antifungal medicines before.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had liver disease; you may need blood tests.

  • Tell your doctor if you have severe diarrhea or vomiting, as the medicine might not work well.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, such as an abnormal ECG, weak heart muscle, heart failure, or a slow heartbeat.
  • Tell your doctor if your blood potassium, magnesium, or calcium levels have changed.
  • Tell your doctor if you are using cancer medicines like vincristine or vinblastine.
  • Avoid sun exposure during treatment and use protective clothing and sunscreen, as your skin may become sensitive to the sun.
  • This medicine should not be given to children under 2 years of age.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or think you may be pregnant, talk to your doctor. Do not use this medicine during pregnancy unless your doctor tells you to. Use reliable contraception during treatment. Do not breastfeed while taking this medicine.
