How to Use

Dosage

On the first day, take 300 mg (three 100 mg tablets) twice a day. After the first day, take 300 mg (three 100 mg tablets) once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with some water. Do not crush, chew, break, or dissolve it. You can take the tablets with or without food.

Important

On the first day, the maximum daily dose is 600 mg. After that, the maximum daily dose is 300 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Abnormal salt levels in blood tests (causing confusion and weakness)
  • Abnormal skin sensation (such as numbness, tingling, itching, burning, or a crawling feeling)
  • Headache
  • Low potassium levels in blood tests
  • Low magnesium levels in blood tests
  • High blood pressure
  • Loss of appetite
  • Abdominal pain or upset stomach
  • Flatulence (gas)
  • Dry mouth
  • Changes in taste
  • Heartburn (a burning sensation in the chest)
  • Low white blood cell count (neutropenia) in blood tests – increases infection risk
  • Fever
  • Feeling weak
  • Dizziness
  • Tiredness or drowsiness
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Constipation
  • Unpleasant feeling in the rectum
RARE
  • Anemia (headache, tiredness, dizziness, shortness of breath, pale skin, low hemoglobin)
  • Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia) – may lead to bleeding
  • Low white blood cell count (leukopenia) – increases infection risk
  • High eosinophil count (eosinophilia) – may be linked to inflammation
  • Inflammation of blood vessels
  • Heart rhythm disorders (irregular heartbeat, palpitations, slow or fast heartbeat), low blood pressure
  • Seizures (convulsions)
  • Nerve damage (neuropathy)
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) – severe abdominal pain
  • Blocked oxygen supply to the spleen (splenic infarction) – severe abdominal pain
  • Severe kidney problems (increased or decreased urination, changes in urine color, high blood creatinine)
  • Cough, hiccups, nosebleeds, sharp chest pain when breathing (pleuritic pain), breathing difficulties
  • Enlarged lymph nodes
  • Reduced sensitivity (especially in the skin)
  • Tremors
  • High or low blood sugar
  • Blurred vision, light sensitivity, double vision, blindness, or a dark spot in the field of vision
  • Hair loss
  • Mouth sores, swollen mouth, inflammation of mucous membranes
  • Chills, general feeling of illness
  • Pain (back, neck, arms, legs), chest pain, abdominal pain
  • Fluid retention (swelling)
  • Menstrual disorders (abnormal vaginal bleeding)
  • Inability to speak, difficulty thinking or speaking
  • Insomnia, abnormal dreams, sleep difficulties, tiredness, drowsiness, depression, nervousness
  • Coordination or balance problems, involuntary jerky movements (especially in the hands)
  • Nasal congestion
  • Unpleasant feeling in the chest, bloated stomach, belching
  • Severe nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain and diarrhea (often viral)
  • Pneumonia (shortness of breath, colored sputum)
  • High blood pressure in lung arteries (pulmonary hypertension) – can severely damage lungs and heart
  • Unusual blood clotting, prolonged bleeding
  • Severe allergic reactions (blistering rash, skin peeling, swelling of face or tongue)
  • Mental disorders (hallucinations, confusion)
  • Fainting
  • Stroke (pain, weakness, numbness or tingling in limbs)
  • Heart failure or heart attack (can lead to cardiac arrest and death)
  • Blood clot in legs (deep vein thrombosis) – severe pain or swelling in legs
  • Blood clot in lungs (pulmonary embolism) – shortness of breath or pain when breathing
  • Bleeding in stomach or intestines – vomiting blood, blood in stool
  • Bowel obstruction (ileus) – abdominal bloating, vomiting, severe constipation, loss of appetite
  • Hemolytic uremic syndrome – breakdown of red blood cells (hemolysis), may involve kidney failure
  • Pancytopenia – abnormal deficiency of all blood cells (red, white blood cells, and platelets)
  • Large purple-red skin discolorations (thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura)
  • Breast pain
  • Adrenal gland dysfunction (weakness, tiredness, loss of appetite, skin discoloration)
  • Pituitary gland dysfunction (reduced hormone levels affecting male and female sex organs)
  • Hearing problems
  • Pseudoaldosteronism (high blood pressure, low potassium in blood)
  • Skin redness

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to posaconazole or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are using certain other medicines, such as terfenadine, astemizole, statins, migraine medicines like ergotamine, or venetoclax for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had liver disease, severe diarrhea or vomiting, heart problems (such as irregular heartbeat, long QTc interval, weak heart muscle, slow heartbeat), or if your blood potassium, magnesium, or calcium levels are unusual.
  • Avoid sun exposure during treatment; wear protective clothing and sunscreen.
  • Do not give to children under 2 years of age.

  • Do not breastfeed while using this medicine.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision; do not drive or use machines if these symptoms occur.
