How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is one 4 mg capsule once daily. Your doctor will tell you exactly how much to take.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with water. You can take it with or without food. Take it at the same time each day. Do not break, open, or chew the capsule.

Important

Your doctor will decide your maximum daily dose. Do not take more than your doctor prescribes.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lung infections (pneumonia and bronchitis)
  • Nose, sinus, and throat infections (bacterial or viral)
  • Flu-like symptoms (influenza)
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia), causing tiredness and weakness
  • Low potassium levels, which can cause tiredness, muscle cramps, muscle pain, heart palpitations, tingling, numbness, shortness of breath, and mood changes
  • High blood sugar
  • Fast and irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation, diarrhea, or nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach pain
  • Lack of energy
  • Difficulty falling asleep or waking up
  • Dizziness, tremor
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness
  • Bone pain, back pain
  • Numbness, tingling, or burning sensation in the skin; pain in hands or feet (peripheral sensory neuropathy)
  • Swelling in the body, including arms and legs
  • Rashes
  • Urinary tract infection, which can cause burning when urinating or needing to urinate more often
  • Falls
  • Bleeding in the head
  • Numbness, itching, and prickling sensation in the skin (paresthesia)
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo), which can make it hard to stand or move normally

  • Heart attack (chest pain spreading to arms, neck, or jaw; sweating, shortness of breath, nausea, or vomiting)

  • High blood pressure
  • Low counts of all blood cells (pancytopenia), making you more prone to bleeding, bruising, and infections
  • Low lymphocyte count (a type of white blood cell), often due to infection (lymphopenia)
  • Low magnesium levels in blood
  • Low phosphate levels in blood
  • High calcium levels in blood
  • High potassium levels in blood
  • Low sodium levels in blood
  • High uric acid levels in blood (can cause gout)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Sore or dry mouth
  • Changes in taste
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Confusion
  • Feeling down (depression)
  • Loss of consciousness, fainting
  • Blurred vision (cataract)
  • Kidney damage
  • Inability to urinate
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Pelvic pain
  • Weight loss
RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), causing itchy skin, yellow skin and eyes, pale stools, dark urine, and stomach pain
  • Breakdown of cancer cells (tumor lysis syndrome), leading to kidney problems
  • Underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism), causing tiredness, sluggishness, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can cause severe birth defects. Do not take it if you are pregnant, might be pregnant, or planning to get pregnant. Both men and women taking this medicine must use effective birth control.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of blood clots, heart problems, breathing issues, or if you smoke, have high blood pressure, or high cholesterol, as this medicine can increase your risks.
  • Do not break, open, or chew the capsules. If powder from a broken capsule touches your skin, wash it immediately with soap and water. Pregnant women or those who might be pregnant should not handle the capsules.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you get blurred vision, memory loss, confusion, or weakness in an arm or leg. These could be signs of a serious brain condition called PML.

  • Do not donate blood or sperm during treatment and for 7 days after stopping this medicine.
  • This medicine can make you feel tired, dizzy, weak, or confused. Do not drive or use machines if you feel these effects.
