How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for Pomalidomide Sandoz is 4 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole, preferably with water. You can take them with or without food, around the same time each day.

Important

Your doctor will decide your maximum daily dose based on your condition and blood tests.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Breathing difficulties, like shortness of breath or lung infections.
  • Infections in the nose, sinuses, throat, or flu-like symptoms.
  • Feeling very tired and weak due to low red blood cells (anemia).
  • Changes in blood mineral levels (like potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphate, sodium, uric acid) that can cause weakness, muscle cramps, tingling, numbness, heart issues, or confusion.
  • Digestive issues like constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, or loss of appetite.
  • Difficulty sleeping or waking up, feeling tired or lacking energy.
  • Dizziness, trembling, or problems with balance.
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness, bone pain, or back pain.
  • Numbness, tingling, or burning sensation on the skin, or pain in hands and feet (nerve damage).
  • Swelling in the body, including arms and legs.
  • Skin rashes, hives, or itching.
  • Urinary tract infection (UTI), which can cause burning or frequent urination.
  • High blood sugar or high blood pressure.
  • Sore or dry mouth, or changes in taste.
  • Confusion or depression.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Kidney damage or inability to urinate.
  • Weight loss.
  • Shingles.
RARE
  • Stroke.
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis) causing itchy skin, yellow skin/eyes, pale stools, dark urine, and stomach pain.
  • Tumor lysis syndrome, where cancer cells break down and release harmful substances into the blood, potentially causing kidney problems.
  • Underactive thyroid, leading to symptoms like tiredness, sluggishness, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain.
  • Transplant organ rejection (e.g., heart, liver).

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can cause severe birth defects or death to an unborn baby. Do not take it if you are pregnant, might be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant. Both men and women must use effective birth control during and after treatment.
  • You have a higher risk of getting blood clots in your veins or arteries while taking this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had an allergic reaction to similar medicines (like thalidomide or lenalidomide) before.
  • Discuss with your doctor if you have had a heart attack, heart failure, breathing problems, or if you smoke, have high blood pressure or high cholesterol.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had nerve damage (neuropathy), which causes tingling or pain in your hands or feet.

  • If you have had Hepatitis B, this medicine might make the virus active again. Your doctor will check for this.
  • Watch for severe skin reactions like widespread rash, red skin, high fever, flu-like symptoms, or swollen lymph nodes. Stop taking the medicine and see a doctor immediately if these occur.
  • Taking Pomalidomide Sandoz might increase your risk of other types of cancer. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and risks.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have blurred vision, loss of vision, double vision, trouble speaking, weakness in an arm or leg, changes in walking, balance issues, numbness, loss of sensation, memory loss, or confusion, as these could be signs of a serious brain disorder (PML).
  • Do not break, open, or chew the capsules. If powder from a broken capsule gets on your skin, wash it thoroughly with soap and water immediately.
