How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 4 mg daily.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water, with or without food, at roughly the same time each day. Do not break, open, or chew the capsules.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling tired, weak, or having low energy.
  • Infections like pneumonia, bronchitis, nose, sinus, throat infections, or flu-like illness (due to low white blood cells), and fever, chills, sore throat.
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, or loss of appetite.
  • Numbness, tingling, burning, pain, or weakness in your hands, arms, feet, or legs due to nerve problems.
  • Swelling in your body, especially arms and legs.
  • Skin rash, itchy skin, or hives.
  • Dizziness, headache, confusion, or trouble sleeping.
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness, bone or back pain.
  • Bleeding easily or bruising (like nosebleeds or stomach bleeding) due to low red blood cells or platelets.
  • Shortness of breath, fast or irregular heartbeat, high or low blood pressure.
  • Changes in blood tests (like blood sugar, potassium, calcium, sodium, uric acid, liver tests) or kidney problems.
RARE
  • Stroke (a serious brain condition).
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), which can cause yellow skin/eyes, itchy skin, dark urine, pale stools, or stomach pain.
  • Underactive thyroid (gland in neck), causing tiredness, weakness, slow heart rate, or weight gain.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, as it can harm an unborn baby. Follow all birth control instructions.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had blood clots before. This medicine can increase your risk of blood clots.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you get a severe skin rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, or problems breathing, as these can be signs of a serious allergic reaction.
  • Be aware that new types of cancer might develop in patients treated for multiple myeloma with pomalidomide. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and risks.
