How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 4 mg, taken once a day.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water. You can take them with or without food, around the same time each day. Do not break, open, or chew the capsules.

Important

The recommended maximum daily dose is 4 mg, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lung infections (like pneumonia or bronchitis)
  • Nose, sinus, and throat infections
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Low red blood cells (anemia), causing tiredness and weakness
  • Low potassium in blood, causing weakness, muscle cramps, heart palpitations, tingling, numbness, or mood changes
  • High blood sugar
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation, diarrhea, or nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach ache
  • Lack of energy
  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • Dizziness or shaking
  • Muscle spasms or muscle weakness
  • Bone pain or back pain
  • Numbness, tingling, burning feeling on skin, or pain in hands or feet (nerve damage)
  • Swelling in the body, including arms and legs
  • Rashes
  • Urinary tract infection (UTI), causing burning or frequent urination
  • Falls
  • Bleeding in the head
  • Reduced movement or sensation in hands, arms, feet, and legs due to nerve damage
  • Hives
  • Itchy skin
  • Shingles
  • Heart attack (chest pain spreading, sweating, shortness of breath, nausea)
  • Chest pain or lung infection
  • High blood pressure
  • Decrease in red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets (pancytopenia), leading to easier bleeding/bruising, tiredness, weakness, shortness of breath, and higher risk of infections
  • Low lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell), often due to infection
  • Low magnesium in blood, causing tiredness, weakness, muscle cramps, irritability, and leading to low calcium in blood (numbness/tingling, muscle cramps, weakness, dizziness, confusion)
  • Low phosphate in blood, causing muscle weakness, irritability, or confusion
  • High calcium in blood, causing slow reflexes and weak muscles
  • High potassium in blood, causing irregular heartbeats
  • Low sodium in blood, causing tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, seizures, or coma
  • High uric acid in blood, causing gout (joint inflammation)
  • Low blood pressure, causing dizziness or fainting
  • Sore or dry mouth
  • Changes in taste
  • Bloated stomach
  • Confusion
  • Depression
  • Loss of consciousness or fainting
  • Blurred vision (cataract)
  • Kidney damage
  • Inability to urinate
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Pelvic pain
  • Weight loss
RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), causing itchy skin, yellow skin/eyes, pale stools, dark urine, and stomach pain
  • Breakdown of cancer cells (tumor lysis syndrome), leading to kidney problems
  • Underactive thyroid, causing tiredness, drowsiness, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or might become pregnant, as it can severely harm an unborn baby.
  • Both men and women must use reliable contraception during and for at least 7 days after treatment. Do not donate blood, sperm, or eggs during this period.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of blood clots, heart problems, nerve damage (like tingling or numbness), or Hepatitis B infection.
  • Get medical help right away if you have a severe allergic reaction, such as a serious rash, fever, or swelling of your face, lips, or tongue, or trouble breathing.
  • This medicine can increase your risk of developing other types of cancer. Your doctor will discuss this risk with you.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you notice vision changes, speech problems, weakness in an arm or leg, balance issues, memory loss, or confusion, as these could be signs of a serious brain condition.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel tired, dizzy, weak, or confused while taking this medicine.
  • Your doctor will order regular blood tests to check for changes in your blood cells, as this medicine can affect them.
