How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose of Pomalidomide Sandoz is 4 mg daily.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water, with or without food, at the same time each day. Do not break, open, or chew the capsules.

Important

The usual maximum daily dose is 4 mg, as advised by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lung infections (pneumonia and bronchitis)
  • Bacterial or viral infections of the nose, sinuses, and throat
  • Flu-like symptoms (influenza)
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia), causing tiredness and weakness
  • Low potassium in blood, causing weakness, muscle cramps, muscle pain, palpitations, tingling or numbness, shortness of breath, and mood changes
  • High blood sugar
  • Fast and irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation, diarrhea, or nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Lack of energy / fatigue
  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • Dizziness, tremors
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness
  • Bone pain, back pain
  • Numbness, tingling, or burning sensation in the skin, pain in hands or feet (peripheral neuropathy)
  • Swelling in the body, including arms and legs
  • Rashes
  • Urinary tract infection (UTI), causing burning sensation when urinating or frequent urination
  • Falls
  • Bleeding in the head
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo) which can make standing or moving difficult
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Itching
  • Shingles
  • Heart attack (chest pain spreading to arms, neck, jaw, sweating, shortness of breath, nausea, or vomiting)
  • Chest pain, chest infection
  • High blood pressure
  • Low counts of all blood cells (red, white, platelets), leading to bleeding, bruising, tiredness, weakness, shortness of breath, and infections
  • Low lymphocyte count (a type of white blood cell), often due to infection
  • Low magnesium in blood, causing tiredness, weakness, muscle cramps, irritability, numbness/tingling, muscle weakness, confusion
  • Low phosphate in blood, causing muscle weakness, irritability, or confusion
  • High calcium in blood, causing slow reflexes and weak muscles
  • High potassium in blood, causing abnormal heart rhythm
  • Low sodium in blood, causing tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, seizures, or coma
  • High uric acid in blood, causing joint inflammation (gout)
  • Low blood pressure, causing dizziness or fainting
  • Sore or dry mouth
  • Taste changes
  • Abdominal bloating
  • Confusion
  • Depression / low mood
  • Loss of consciousness, fainting
  • Blurred vision (cataracts)
  • Kidney damage
  • Inability to urinate
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Pelvic pain
  • Weight loss
RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), causing itchy skin, yellow skin/eyes, pale stools, dark urine, and abdominal pain
  • Tumor lysis syndrome (when cancer cells break down, releasing harmful substances that can cause kidney problems)
  • Underactive thyroid, causing tiredness, sluggishness, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, as it can cause severe birth defects or death to an unborn baby.
  • Both men and women must use effective birth control during treatment and for a period after, as this medicine can harm an unborn baby.
  • Do not take if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • This medicine increases the risk of blood clots; your doctor may give you other medicines to prevent this.
  • Do not break, open, or chew capsules. If powder touches your skin, wash it off immediately. Pregnant women should not handle this medicine.

  • Tell your doctor right away if you experience vision changes, speech problems, weakness, memory loss, or confusion, as these could be signs of a serious brain condition (PML).
