How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose of Pomalidomide Olpha is 4 mg per day.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water. Do not break or chew them. You can take them with or without food, but always at the same time each day.

Important

Your doctor will decide the maximum safe daily dose for you.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lung infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)
  • Bacterial or viral infections of the nose, sinuses, and throat
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia), causing tiredness and weakness
  • Low potassium levels in blood (hypokalemia), causing tiredness, muscle cramps, muscle pain, palpitations, tingling or numbness, shortness of breath, and mood changes
  • High blood sugar
  • Fast and irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation, diarrhea or nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Lack of energy
  • Difficulty falling asleep or waking up often
  • Dizziness, tremor
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness
  • Bone pain, back pain
  • Numbness, tingling or burning sensation on the skin, pain in hands or feet (peripheral sensory neuropathy)
  • Body swelling, including arms and legs
  • Rashes
  • Urinary tract infection, which may cause burning during urination or frequent need to urinate

  • Bleeding in the head
  • Reduced movement or sensation in hands, arms, feet, and legs due to nerve damage (peripheral sensorimotor neuropathy)
  • Numbness, itching, and tingling sensation in the skin (paresthesia)
  • Spinning sensation in the head, which can make it difficult to stand or move normally
  • Fluid retention/swelling
  • Hives (urticaria)

  • Heart attack (chest pain spreading to arms, neck, jaw, sweating, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting)
  • Chest pain, lung or bronchial infection
  • High blood pressure
  • Decrease in red and white blood cells and platelets at the same time (pancytopenia), leading to increased bleeding, bruising, tiredness, weakness, shortness of breath, and infections
  • Decreased number of lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell), often due to infection (lymphopenia)
  • Low magnesium levels in blood (hypomagnesemia), causing tiredness, general weakness, muscle cramps, irritability, and potentially low calcium levels (hypocalcemia), leading to numbness/tingling in hands, feet or lips, muscle cramps, muscle weakness, dizziness, weakness, and confusion
  • Low phosphate levels in blood (hypophosphatemia), causing muscle weakness, irritability, or confusion
  • High calcium levels in blood (hypercalcemia), causing slowed reflexes and skeletal muscle weakness
  • High potassium levels in blood (hyperkalemia), which can cause abnormal heart rhythm
  • Low sodium levels in blood (hyponatremia), causing tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, seizures (epileptic seizures), or coma
  • High uric acid levels in blood (hyperuricemia), which can cause arthritis known as gout
  • Low blood pressure, which may cause dizziness or fainting
  • Sore or dry mouth
  • Taste changes
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Feeling of confusion
  • Low mood (depression)
  • Loss of consciousness, fainting
  • Clouding of the eye's lens (cataract)

RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), which can cause itchy skin, yellow skin and eyes, pale stools, dark urine, and abdominal pain
  • Breakdown of cancer cells, releasing toxic substances into the blood (tumor lysis syndrome), which can lead to kidney problems
  • Underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism), which can cause symptoms like tiredness, sluggishness, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant, as it can severely harm an unborn baby.
  • If you can become pregnant, you must use reliable birth control throughout treatment and for at least 4 weeks after stopping the medicine.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any of its other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had blood clots, as this medicine can increase the risk of blood clots.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you develop a severe skin reaction, such as a widespread rash, fever, or swollen lymph nodes.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience vision problems, speech difficulties, weakness in your arms or legs, memory loss, or confusion, as these could be signs of a rare, serious brain condition.
  • Inform your doctor if you have ever had a Hepatitis B infection, as this medicine can cause the virus to reactivate.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had nerve damage (neuropathy) or experience tingling or pain in your hands or feet.
  • If you have a large amount of cancer, your doctor will monitor you, as the rapid breakdown of cancer cells can cause serious kidney and heart rhythm problems.
  • Patients taking this medicine may have an increased risk of developing other cancers. Your doctor will discuss the benefits and risks with you.
