How to Use

Dosage

The recommended starting dose for Pomalidomide Olpha is 4 mg daily. Your doctor may adjust your dose.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with water. You can take it with or without food, around the same time each day. Do not open, break, or chew the capsules.

Important

The recommended maximum daily dose is 4 mg, unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lung infections (pneumonia and bronchitis)
  • Nose, sinus, and throat bacterial or viral infections
  • Flu-like symptoms (influenza)
  • Low red blood cell count, which can cause anemia, leading to tiredness and weakness
  • Low potassium levels, which can cause fatigue, muscle cramps, muscle pain, palpitations, tingling or numbness, shortness of breath, and mood changes
  • High blood sugar
  • Fast and irregular heart rate (atrial fibrillation)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation, diarrhea or nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Lack of energy
  • Difficulty falling asleep or waking up
  • Dizziness, tremor
  • Muscle spasms, muscle weakness
  • Bone pain, back pain
  • Numbness, tingling or burning sensation on the skin, pain in hands or feet (peripheral sensory neuropathy)
  • Body swelling, including arms and legs
  • Rashes
  • Urinary tract infection, which can cause a burning sensation during urination or frequent urge to urinate
  • Falls
  • Intracranial bleeding
  • Impaired movement or sensation in hands, arms, feet, and legs due to nerve damage
  • Numbness, itching, and tingling sensation on the skin
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo), which can make it difficult to stand or move normally
  • Fluid retention
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Skin itching
  • Shingles
  • Heart attack (chest pain, sweating, nausea)
  • Chest pain, lung or bronchial infection
  • High blood pressure
  • Simultaneous decrease in red, white blood cells, and platelets (increased bleeding and infection risk)
  • Decreased number of lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell, often due to infection)
  • Low magnesium levels in the blood (can cause fatigue, cramps, irritability, or low calcium)
  • Low phosphate levels in the blood (can cause muscle weakness or confusion)
  • High calcium levels in the blood (can slow reflexes and weaken muscles)
  • High potassium levels in the blood (can cause abnormal heart rhythm)
  • Low sodium levels in the blood (can cause fatigue, confusion, muscle twitching, seizures, or coma)
  • High uric acid levels in the blood (can cause gout)
  • Low blood pressure (can cause dizziness or fainting)
  • Sore or dry mouth
  • Taste changes
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Feeling of confusion
  • Depression
  • Loss of consciousness, fainting
  • Clouding of the eye lens (cataract)
  • Kidney damage
  • Inability to urinate
  • Abnormal liver test
  • Pelvic pain
  • Weight loss
RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), which can cause itchy skin, yellow skin and whites of the eyes (jaundice), light stools, dark urine, and abdominal pain
  • Cancer cell breakdown leading to release of toxic substances into the blood (tumor lysis syndrome), which can cause kidney problems
  • Underactive thyroid, which can cause symptoms such as fatigue, lethargy, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, as it can harm the unborn baby.
  • Carefully follow contraception guidelines while taking this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had blood clots, as the risk increases during this treatment.
  • Inform your doctor if you have had a severe allergic reaction to similar medicines, such as rash, itching, swelling, or breathing difficulties.

  • Tell your doctor if you have had a heart attack, heart failure, breathing problems, if you smoke, or have high blood pressure or cholesterol.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a large number of tumors, as this can cause kidney problems and an irregular heartbeat.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had nerve damage causing tingling or pain in your hands or feet.
  • Inform your doctor if you have had a Hepatitis B infection, as it might become active again.
  • Immediately tell your doctor if you develop a severe rash, fever, or swollen lymph nodes.
  • Taking this medicine may increase your risk of developing other types of cancer.
  • Immediately tell your doctor if you notice changes in vision, speech, walking, memory, or feel confused, as these could be signs of a serious brain disorder (PML).
  • Do not break, open, or chew capsules. If powder gets on your skin, wash the area immediately with soap and water. Pregnant women should not handle the capsules.
