How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the right dose. The usual starting dose is 4 mg daily.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water. Do not break, open, or chew them. You can take them with or without food. Take your medicine at about the same time each day.

Important

The highest recommended daily dose is usually 4 mg, but your doctor may change your dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Infections in the lungs, nose, sinuses, and throat
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Anemia (tiredness and weakness due to low red blood cells)
  • Low potassium levels in the blood (can cause tiredness, muscle cramps, heart palpitations, numbness, and mood changes)
  • High blood sugar
  • Fast and irregular heartbeat
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation, diarrhea, or nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Fatigue (lack of energy)
  • Difficulty sleeping or waking up often
  • Dizziness, trembling
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness
  • Bone and back pain
  • Nerve damage causing tingling, numbness, or pain in hands or feet
  • Body swelling, including arms and legs
  • Rashes, itching, or hives
  • Urinary tract infection (burning when urinating or increased need to urinate)
  • Falls
  • Bleeding inside the head
  • Vertigo (feeling like the world is spinning)
  • Fluid retention
  • Shingles
  • Heart attack or chest pain
  • High blood pressure
  • Reduced blood cell counts (red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets), which can lead to bleeding, bruising, and infections
  • Reduced lymphocyte (a type of white blood cell) counts
  • Low magnesium levels in the blood
  • Low phosphate levels in the blood
  • High calcium levels in the blood
  • High potassium levels in the blood
  • Low sodium levels in the blood
  • High uric acid levels in the blood (can cause gout)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Mouth pain or dry mouth
  • Changes in taste
  • Abdominal swelling
  • Confusion
  • Depression
  • Loss of consciousness, fainting
  • Blurred vision (cataract)
  • Kidney damage or inability to urinate
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Pelvic pain
  • Weight loss
RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), which can cause itching, yellow skin and eyes, pale stools, dark urine, and abdominal pain
  • Breakdown of cancer cells releasing toxins into the blood (tumor lysis syndrome), which can lead to kidney problems
  • Underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism), which can cause tiredness, sluggishness, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or plan to get pregnant, as it can severely harm an unborn baby.
  • If you can become pregnant, you must use effective birth control during and after treatment with this medicine.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any other ingredients in it.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had blood clots before. This medicine can increase your risk of blood clots.
  • If you experience symptoms like blurred vision, speech problems, or weakness in your arms or legs during or after treatment, contact your doctor immediately. These could be signs of a serious brain condition.

  • Seek immediate medical help if you get a fever, chills, sore throat, mouth sores, or other signs of infection.
  • If you have unexplained bleeding or bruising, such as nosebleeds, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you have rapid breathing, fast heart rate, fever, chills, very little urine, nausea, vomiting, or confusion.
  • If you have chest pain, swelling or pain in your legs, especially in your calves, or shortness of breath, seek immediate medical help.
  • If you have swelling in your face, lips, tongue, or throat, which makes breathing difficult, seek immediate medical help. This could be a sign of a severe allergic reaction.
  • If you develop a widespread rash, high fever, swollen lymph nodes, or other symptoms, stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor immediately.
